Hi Friends,

I recently bought a right hand drive 1980 FJ40. I noticed a few days ago that the left hand side (passenger side) shackle is hanging lower than the drivers side shackle when measured from the floor. The entire leaf spring on the left is hanging lower when looking from the front of the vehicle. They are not at equal heights. The shackle sizes are identical. Is this something to do with the frame or the leafs?

Also the fj40 leans to that particular side as well.

Recently replaced all bushings with OME bush kit. Checked u bolts as well.

Sorry if the pic is not clear. if u look from this angle will you only see the differences in height.

The spring looks almost flat. Look at the angle of the shackle and see if they are significantly different from side to side.

The springs do have a slight curve to them. The angles are also very similar. Cant understand why one side would sit different to the other. Also the fj40 leans to that particular side as well.

Did you have both springs off at the same time? Some manufacturers make one spring stiffer to combat "cruiser lean". If they are swapped it might account for the lean.

Don't really have a branded set of leafs installed. After i bough the truck. i noticed few leafs were broken. So had them cut and replaced from a leaf spring shop. Normally the "cruiser lean" is on to the driver's side right and not the passenger side?

Fatigued springs, especially if you had to replace some cracked leafs. My guess is the leafs you didn't replace are the leaning problem, they are too tired?????

To me the military wraps look different - one cut square (r) and one longer tapered(l) .the u bolts are also different. The spring clamps also look different. I wonder If they are different springs

I was told. The springs are different left to right to compensate for crowning on roadways. When you drive on the opposite side you get the lean. Is this a BS urban legend or based on fact? Could a swap l to r solve the problem?just put OME to replace this sagged out set on bj70
