LC's in Raleigh - who's here?

Sounds good. I'm starting with a stock 80 but probably going to do some light mods - maybe a smaller lift, maybe 33's, etc. Nothing too crazy.

Is there a showoff thread for all the local trucks here?

HAHAHAHA did you say lights :D

What shops would you guys recommend in the local area for FZJ80-specific maintenance, etc?

I guess that depends on what your LC needs? I've replaced an AC dryer, compressor, expansion valve, an antenna, installed a body lift, and helped with a knuckle job and I'm just a newbie at this. I think most of us do the work our selves. I can't afford to pay the pros.

Since I've owned my 80, I think I've taken it to 2 shops - Tao in Cary to fix something w/ AC which I couldn't do, and a place in Apex to press out control arm bushings and for an alignment. There are no Cruiser-specific shops here, but some Toyota-specific places; I think if you search this board, you might find some like Phil's (?) in Cary. Most everyone seems to do their own work, it's less expensive, more reassuring it'll be done right, and a great way to further bond with your Cruiser. :)

I do my own work whenever possible, even if it means laying underneath my truck while it's raining, at night, with a flashlight between my teeth, dropping F-bomb's like I'm a bomber pilot in World War II, bleeding at the knuckles, with only one eye open coz the other one has dirt in it... you get the idea.

But occasionally, especially now that I have a little girl that wants my attention whenever she's awake, you need a shop's help. I don't have a lift at home, and I only have the one set of hands.

Just hoping to find a shop or two that's not too far away, with some knowledge of these trucks, that owns metric tools and will troubleshoot instead of just throwing new parts at my truck like free candy, without any real diagnosis.

Darin is in Raeford/Fayetteville and will be the best option. He's maybe 1.5 hours away.

I have been known to throw more than my fair share of F bombs while under a truck. Esp if it is full of dirt and it gets in your ears / eyes. Not cool.

Absolutely. Sailors got nothin' on me when I'm up to my armpit in an engine bay.

Anyone have interest in a clean set of tan/beige leather 3rd row seats from a '96 LX450? If not, I am going to trash them.

Sure, I'll take 'em. If nobody else wants them for their truck I might just use them in the garage but better than trashing them.

Want to bring them to the next meeting? or I can pick up.

I work on the weekends, usually in the mornings on both days, so I won't make the meets, most likely.

We can meet up somewhere though. Shoot me a PM and we can figure it out. I would hate to see them go to waste, but I don't have room for extra car parts anymore.

Can anyone point me to someone in the area that builds bumpers for our trucks? I'd probably be looking for a tube bumper with a winch box built in.

Plus while it's there he'll slip a Vortec V8 under the hood for a few pennies more ;)

Ok, Ok, a heck of a lot of pennies more .... :worms:

Any thoughts from you guys in or near Raleigh as to what a front-end axle service should cost around here, if I was to pay a shop to do it?

Is $1000 sufficient to get the job done?

@WarTruck Are you interested in doing the work yourself if you have some guidance or are you hands off?
