Does anyone have any insight as to how the US bound LC250 will sound? I heard a new RAV4 hybrid back out in a parking lot the other day and it sounded like a laptop with a failing cooling fan. I realize the LC250 will get a different hybrid system than RAV4 hybrid, prius, etc. but guessing there will still be some similar characteristics for parking lot/driveway speed. Also, is it expected that the motor will basically sound like a 4 cyl Camry with some turbo whine? I know it’s early, but guessing those who have been fortunate enough to drive or see/hear it driven could provide some feedback. Apologies if this was discussed previously and I missed it.

Lol.

I have a grand highlander with that new 4-cyl turbo. 265hp, quick and responsive, but yeah, honestly it sounds like crap. More like a 4-cyl camry motor that's been abused and has some worn bits knocking around.

Its an I4 that isn't a cross plane crank, so it's going to sound like s***. I only hope that they do enough with noise/vibration mitigation that you might not notice it too much.

This is what I’m worried about. I’m a little nuts when it comes to car sounds and vibrations.

It’s relatively quiet when I saw it driving after Cruiserfest . Hot take opinion if you’re after engine noises get a different car. We can lie to ourselves and say the 4.7 5.7 V8 had amazing engine noises. It didn’t if it did more would have bigger louder exhausts. You can disagree and I like a nice sounding engine but that’s reserved for performance cars or old diesels.

I guess we all have different ideas of what sounds good. I would be thrilled to have something new from yota/lex that sounds like my 2003 4Runner Sport Edition V8 (4.7L) did.

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand this concern. What I care about is whether the interior is quiet when I'm driving. That's about it. It's not a sports car that I'm winding the engine up through the gears. As long as it is quiet inside, that's all I care about.

I think most people would be thrilled if it’s quiet in the cabin, but it probably won’t be as the sound of most 4 cyl Toyotas is very noticeable in the cabin. Toyota has been adding synthetic noise thru the speakers of their larger offerings e.g. sequoia and grand highlander. And, Toyota likely will not stuff the LC250 with the level of sound deading that they did the 200 series. My question is not about it sounding sporty. The question (for those who have experienced the LC250 firsthand) is really about whether the 4 cyl noise and hybrid low speed sounds are at all irritating.

I both appreciate the sound of a throatier exhaust but at the same time hate it when I'm trying to have an important conversation on the phone.

The 5.7L TRD PRO Tundra used a factory cat-back exhaust that gave it a very throaty exhaust, which I very much appreciated. Flip-side..damn exhaust introduced so much cabin noise that having a conversation on the phone (or with very soft spoken occupants) a total pita.

The new TRD PRO with the hybrid setup confused the fawk out of me...the hybrid system at start-up is deathly quiet. It starts with the electric motors and then switches to the IC engine...I had to do a double take w the sales dude to make sure I had started it.

So, that's a very long winded way of saying the 250 exhaust sounds anemic but at least it doesn't sound like the new EVs from Kia/Hyundai/Honda with that weird synthetic noise that reminds me of something you would hear from the sci-fi movie War of the Worlds.

The noise isn’t going to be an issue at low speed. The issue will be at high speed and under full throttle acceleration. At low speed and low throttle, the turbo muffles exhaust sound significantly.

Typically those synthetic sounds can be turned off. They are stupid, but just turn them off, so it’s not an issue.

Comment on the funky EV sounds. The manufacturers choose what the sound will be in order to comply with

49 CFR § 571.141 - Standard No. 141; Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.

EVs (full EV) and Hybrid EV are required to make external sound at 18mph or below to alert vision impaired pedestrians of an approaching vehicle.

I would love for those owners to turn them off...it's weird when you're standing there and hear that low hum.
There are two sounds in some EVs. There is sound in the interior, which is often made to change in response to speed and accelerator position — that sound can be turned off.

There is also an exterior sound which can’t be turned off. This sound is made when the vehicle is driving at low speed. Electric cars are so quiet that pedestrians may not hear them, so these sounds are for pedestrian safety. These pedestrian sounds are quiet enough that I doubt you can hear them inside the car.

I doubt that the 250 can move under electric powered alone, so I doubt it will have such a pedestrian safety sound.
