Pretty bad, took us a while to dig around and snatch it out. It was sand soup sea, and I kept digging in. But recovery such as these makes the trip memorable

Yup Nikon DSLR, wide angle ! But sand is a killer ..you spend equal time cleaning your rig and camera after the trip

the top two pics are just incredible, I just keep looking at them!!! I'm gonna guess your shooting with the 14-24mm f2.8??? Yep I know all about sand in the camera equipment, I can hear it in the lens still when i zoom in and out crunching

Yes Sir f2.8! Good eye !!
I used Tokina 11-16mm on D7100 with later processing in Adobe LightRoom 5 only.

The crunching sound is a killer... I'm thinking of wrapping the body+lens in a plastic bag next time !!

yep, we call them camera condoms they are a pain in the ass but do keep some of the sand and or water out of the camera!!!

Why the 2723s over the normal 722s? I like the look of your rear height, and was just wondering. I guess it is because of your anticipated additional rear weight, or maybe just the added lift? How's the ride quality when you are unloaded?

I have a LongRanger 180L , plus on longer trips, the cruiser is fully stuffed with camping gear and a fridge etx. So the constant 200kg load coils helps a lot. tbh, i dont have any issues with the ride quality - it is stiffer when fully unloaded..

I think Beno wrote about it in details 'somewhere' on this forum, but in summary these parts cannot be sourced in US market. Few other gulf members on this forum, like xkennx suggest that the after market winches are better than toyota...

Longranger guys say, 'Big Tank for the Big Country' ... but it aint big enough for our 1000km+ expeditions and everytime I end up carrying few extra jerry cans. This year it was close to 1100Km of desert wilderness and to be safe, I had to carry around 160L extra fuel. So in total of about 430L. Last year, it created a bit of a challenge to strap everything properly because you don't want things to be flying into your head whilst taking those 150m+ high slipfaces and navigating through dunes. So this year , with a help of a very talented friend - we decided to make a flat wooden platform - pictorial story is below : and expedition pictures will follow later -

No drilling - used all the pre-existing seat bolts or hook bolts which comes stock in the 3rd row cabin. Just had to buy longer length bolts.
