I got the Toyota OEM front spring spacers for my 2016 Land Cruiser (usa). My dealer did not want to install them, stating its a safety liability and kdss..... i then went to 2 diff local mechanics and they both also said its not a good idea. that suspention system and car sensers will be off and cause issues, because sensors will be sensing that somethings off. Any one out there experienced any issues with these spring spacers? I dont want to pay for install and then have issues.

My Toyota dealer installed them on a new LC before I picked it up. They also installed larger tires and did an alignment. No issues at all.

I just had a set installed at Budbuilt a week ago. I'm up to about 1500 miles since then (600 today). No issues. They are wrong.

It is a Toyota OEM part. Find another Toyota dealer or mechanic. I bet that dealer sells new jacked up Tacoma's with aftermarket lifts and oversized tires at a premium and doesn't have a problem pushing those.

That dealership has some grade A staff... how would an OEM part not work... :hmm:

Others have thousands of miles with them and no issues. I have had them on for over 2 years and no issues - 2013 LX570.

40k miles on mine and zero problems.

that good to hear. because part of what they were saying was that because it has the hydraulic self leveling system (kdss), the spacers could throw that system off

Will i need any sensors recalibrated? the sensors that tell the ecu if the vehicle is level

It’s amusing, because KDSS has NOTHING to do with electronic sensors at all. -One of the few major systems that is free of dependence on them.

So...those shops don’t know what they are talking about.

MANY shops know literally *nothing* about KDSS. Also a tendency to confuse or equate AHC and KDSS even at Toyota/Lexus shops.

All that is needed with regard to KDSS is to open the valves (NO MORE THAN 3 TURNS EACH!!!!!! I can't stress this enough) to balance the system. Also doing the strut R&R is easier with the balance screws open.

KDSS doesn't do anything to level the suspension.. it just allows the sway bars to disconnect when covering obstacles off-road.

Do 16 cruisers have auto headlight leveling? If so that might involve suspension position sensors, which could need adjustment after the spacers.

thanks. is kdss adjustment needed even though its only the 10mm oem spacers? if yes, can you explain a bit more in detail of the kdss adjusment process.

It's not an adjustment, it just allows fluid to move freely around in the system so you're not fighting the hydraulic pressure in the KDSS system to get the struts in and out. Open valves (3 TURNS ONLY), remove struts, install spacers, etc, then sit truck back on level ground and close the valves.

now i get it, its just for the removal and install of struts...thanks

valve location?

valve location is?

Tagged for interest. I need these spacers as well

pics and location are in this thread:

Local Toyota Dealer did the install for me.
After they finished the KDSS lean was present which they fixed.
3K miles since then and no issues.
I wouldn't go back to that Toyota Dealer that turned you away ever again.

Make sure whoever does the install loosens the control arm bolts to let the bushings reset to their new ride-height position.. AND that they wait until it's at ride height before tightening. I'm starting to be more and more sure that uneven bushing position is why my rig leans. Which also puts more strain on the bushings that are loaded up.

KDSS has been covered very extensively on this board.. do some digging and you'll find more info than you could ever want.

I had mine installed on 2016 LC at a Toyota dealer. Fixed the “cruiser lean” as well. I believe these spacers come from the factory for some markets. I’m speculating they don’t come standard in USA because new buyers tow more and off-road less in USA. In any case I agree with others, get a new dealer to work with.
