So, I found and purchashed refinished oem wheels for my LX450. At least thats what I thought. Now I am being told that the LX wheels are out of stock. So, my question is this: Any thoughts or opinions on putting LC wheels on a LX. I know they will fit, just want to know if if is taboo? I actually prefer the cleaner look of the LC wheel but don't want to hurt the LX's resale (not that I am selling it anytime soon). Anyone have any pics of their LX with LC wheels? Thanks

Really doubt that many potential buyers would realize it or care. You could always just paint a black stripe on each spoke and it would be hard to tell the difference.

Taboo

Doesn't your LX already have LX wheels, were they stolen?
If you prefer the LC wheels I don't know why it would matter what anyone else thinks. Screw them, it's your truck. As said above, I don't think anyone looking to buy it in the future will know or care.

Like some said, it wouldn't really matter to most potential future buyer.

A knowledgeable person would know the LX450 is a Land Cruiser anyway. Somebody off the street wouldn't be able to tell if your truck should have LX rims.

I would say it would be more of a concern if they were CHROME rims. :grinpimp:

Firepro, hit me up when you're ready to get rid of your LX450 rims.

Picture below: Not all stock but it shows how the LC rims look with the Lexus cladding and flares. Google LX450 and you should get some pics with LC rims on.

Yes, my LX does have LX wheels, but they are corroded at the painted inserts. It is actually cheaper to buy a refinished set outright than it is to have mine refinished locally. I am leaning toward getting the 40th anniversary version of the LC wheels. My rig is that Lexus old man gold-ish color so I am hoping the LC wheels will sport it up a bit . So far, it has a lift and 33's but still looks a bit stuffy. Though, I am in my 40's now so maybe I should embrace the old man style:p

I am early forties too, so I feel your pain:lol:
Try prepping and painting the wheels first:idea: If they look bad, no harm done. I too like the 80 wheels and they may knock some of the pink panty out of the LX. How about some stealies? I like that look.

Place is turning into a geriatric ward.

Quick pic of previous LX wheels that were bead blasted (unnecessary) then sprayed.

Personally, I'd run whatever you want, be it LX, LC, or

Yah, I would do it myself but bending down to sand them would hurt my knees and the paint fumes would make me kind of wheezy.

clean them, clean again with brake clean, then plasti dip. they have it in a spray can now too. tuck some cardboard between wheel and tire and you don't even have to unmount the tires. If you don't like the look, peel it off in about 5 minutes per wheel. I helped a friend with his Heep canyon wheels, surprisingly durable and easy to touch up after rock contact.

I do prefer the LC wheels on either form of our trucks

That pic shows my '96 LX and I really do prefer the smooth and simple LC wheels. I use the old corroded LX wheels with snow tires. And I don't use those stupid center caps on either....

Here is a gallery with both, so you can compare:

More truck pics are scattered through my family vacation albums.

These are stock LandCruiser steelies (on the 80, M101 has the takeoff alloys, one of which no longer holds air), PN 42601-60361. They've got a panache that's a little more down to earth than the alloys. Good enough for CDan, go enough for me. Eventually going to have a full set of 7 by adding 3: 2 for the trailer and one to replace the alloy the spare is on.

Everyone seems to be concerned on the cosmetic factors.

BIG WORD OF WARNING:

There are THREE kinds of LC 80 wheels.

To the best of my recollection:
'90-'92 are 15" wheels and won't fit without modifications that may compromise the brakes.
'93-'94 are 16" wheels with steel inserts that require acorn lug nuts.
'95 can go either way on the requirements - lug nuts MUST match the wheels though.
'96-'97 should work fine on your Lexus - they use a captured washer style lug nut much like what the LX450 did.

Mismatch the wheels and or lug nuts and or torque specs (different by type) and you could end up in a world of hurt.

Good point of reminder on matching lug nuts to application. In my case, the factory steel wheels illustrated above take yet another, fourth style of lug nut. CDan kept me straight on those when I ordered the wheels. Pay attention to the match between tire and lug nut or you'll find yourself in dangerous territory.

Perfect! Before and after pics of both wheels on the same color truck as mine. Can't ask for more than that :grinpimp:. That rig looks like mine's cooler big brother. Really great web page by the way, Thanks John.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the LC wheels. They offered them in
tapered or non-tapered lug style. I assumed tappered would be the same as conical or acorn. I ordered the non-tapered style which I believe would be the same as the flat washer type for my 97 LX. Hopefully I got that right.

Hmm, I want to say that the lug nuts on my LX (with stock wheels) have a taper to them on the part of the lug nut that meets the wheel. I can pull one off and take a picture tonight if no one else chimes in.

I think you are wise in sticking with the LC or LX alloys. From previous reading here, you will be very hard pressed to find a stronger, better made wheel. They are single piece, forged aluminum.

Do you know what year LC they came off of? Either way it's not a guarantee that they are all the same (likely of course, but not guarantee). You'll have to check them when you get them to make sure you use the correct lug nuts. Good luck:beer:
