A guy on youtube sent me this video of a Landcruiser HDJ 100 frame restoration and it is pretty cool. Not sure if you all have seen this, if it's already posted here, or if the creator is on here but it's worth a few minutes for sure.

Wow that's incredible, looks like a manual turbo diesel too! Thanks for sharing this

Outstanding. The man hours required for this level of restoration must be off the charts, I can only imagine....

What's the point? Amazing, incredible, outstanding ... waste of time and effort, IMHO.

100s were made in far too many numbers, and while their value might increase over time, they will never be worth enough to justify this much effort and expense. There just isn't enough of a long game on that kind of work to be worth doing, unless it's prep for some display or museum somewhere.

Might as well put your money in a pile on the ground and light it on fire.

Maybe he just did it for fun. People spend a lot of money on their hobbies.

Projects like this keep guys like this out of trouble. A few weeks ago my wife complained that I was spending all my spare time in the garage. I told her it is better to spend my time under a 20 year old Toyota in the garage instead of on top of a 20 year old slut in a cheep hotel.
She hasn’t said anything about my garage time or money spent on the LC in weeks.

Adult legos. The fun is in building it, certainly wasnt doing it for selling for money. Everybody has to find something to do for fun.

Also he has some other videos of him exploring, could be his expedition rig and sentimental.

I spend WAY too much time in my garage/shop. I built and installed a screen door off of the kitchen into the garage so the wife feels more connected now. Working well so far!

I was going to let this comment go, but I can't. Sorry...

There are many reasons why someone would do this and several have absolutely nothing to do with money. Sometimes money is not important you know? Obviously not to this guy.

There was a documentary I had seen about addictions and how some folks cope with external distractions and activities they do that keep them from bad habits. I also remember talking to a guy who used to be an addict and spending time working on his truck kept him out of trouble.

Did you not enjoy the video? there is a great feeling of reward and self-discipline from an accomplishment like this and especially doing it on your own. Sounds like you don't value any of these, neither have to do with money.

I think this was an outstanding achievement, and him documenting, sharing it and remembering all the discipline it took to finish it will pay off in many ways other than the value of this truck.

This is a lame comment. Come on dude, that was fun to watch.

Depends on what you do with your truck. I drive and use mine, it'd stay looking like that for about 10 minutes. And I always have a bunch of different projects going on. To me, that's a waste of time and money as much as to you, it's awesome. The only way doing that makes sense (to me) is if you do it and it never moves unless it's on a trailer. The second you use it all that work, the prep, the paint, the myriad of new parts, it gets undone. Great that he had fun doing it. People have fun collecting ashtrays, too. I think collecting ashtrays are dumb, but that doesn't mean an avid ashtray collector should ever pay any attention to me and stop. To each, their own.

If someone is going to put something out in the Internet and expect everyone to think it's the most amazing thing ever and fawn over it adoringly, the Internet probably isn't the place to do that.

gatormark91 is certainly entitled to his opinion but I also disagree. I spent 4 years doing a very complete restoration of a 72 Porsche 911. Every molecule of that car was touched. For me, that was an incredibly rewarding and fun experience. We all enjoy different aspects of car ownership. The "build" was a huge part of my ownership experience enjoyment on the old 911. With my 100 Series, it's still stock and I really enjoy the "no worry" aspect of the truck and driving it everywhere and anywhere. Its not all about whether it makes economic sense.
