What's the point? Amazing, incredible, outstanding ... waste of time and effort, IMHO.

100s were made in far too many numbers, and while their value might increase over time, they will never be worth enough to justify this much effort and expense. There just isn't enough of a long game on that kind of work to be worth doing, unless it's prep for some display or museum somewhere.

Might as well put your money in a pile on the ground and light it on fire.

Ya well not everyone does that sort of thing as an investment. Besides some people have a lot of money dude. The cost of that resto would be chump change to some people.

Wow! Who pissed in your Cornflakes this morning?
Guess I'm not allowed to have an opinion, every should just post how awesome it is. Yay, it's awesome! Best ... thing ... ever.

Better?

Like I said, you want to toss something up on an Internet, it's up for discussion, and folks won't always agree. If someone wants to post something for ever-loving approval and likes and gold stars, they can always go show it to their mother.

As with most all of life's happenings, not everyone has the same level of appreciation.

Perhaps all can simply agree to disagree in a civil manner?

You're just a ray of sunshine aren't you? Yes everyone is allowed to have a opinion, doesn't mean you're required to share it. There used to be a saying, what was it again, oh ya "If you don't have anything nice to say........." I think it's interesting that you probably wouldn't make that comment to the guy if he was in front of you. Then again, maybe you would. I'm out.

To everyone getting worked up over someone's poor conveyance of an opinion, seek to remember not to respond to mindlessness with mindlessness.

I appreciate the dedication and care that was taken to make this person's build just as he wanted it. I wouldn't follow in his footsteps, but I find it very cool that he did. The pursuit of near perfection feels very Japanese to me. I believe that Toyota would be proud.

Oh and to the comments regarding money... For more people than most realize this wouldn't be all that expensive based on net worth. I have seen/met a guy driving a new Bugatti Chiron on my way to work several times. His yearly maintenance bill is more than this project by several multiples. Even if this represents his entire life savings, who are we to pass judgement. This is very likely his out picturing of living his best life.

Projects like this keep guys like this out of trouble. A few weeks ago my wife complained that I was spending all my spare time in the garage. I told her it is better to spend my time under a 20 year old Toyota in the garage instead of on top of a 20 year old slut in a cheep hotel.
She hasn’t said anything about my garage time or money spent on the LC in weeks.

This sounds like it would be a whole lot more successful than my "Well I do spend more time in the truck than in you..."

Frame job looks excellent. No, it's not really practical on a driver if that's the standard you expect to maintain during ownership. To take a vehicle down to every individual fastener and rebuild from scratch is on my bucket list as I know it would be immensely rewarding and I have this burning desire to build a *completely perfect* old car, even if that only lasts until the first drive.

x2. Regret not taking Automotive shop in High School.
I took an intro class my freshman year lol. I'm actually planning on swapping the frame out on my truck this winter (if everything goes to plan). I will document my progress on my build thread.

He actually did a pretty good job conveying his opinion, and that, probably, what has ruffled some feathers :)))

I am known to have spent outrageous sums of money on whiskey, and I do not regret drinking every drop of it! This is not the worst way to spend your money on, and the guy still gets to keep his liver!

Beautiful restoration - my only wish with the video was to replace the music with Ed China removing the body from frame, restoring frame and drivetrain, and putting it all back together in one episode! Then making sure Mike never gets his hands on it.

This vid made my week so far!

Well, to some people, Land Cruisers just mean *THAT immensely much to them to the point of what I just saw in that video. To those that are saying its a waste of time and money, and just get a new one, well, Land Cruisers just aren't that replaceable to the point like a kitchen appliance and have more value than that as they mean way more than that to those special individuals whether it be a BJ40 or a recent 100/200 series.

Beautiful restoration. Id love to see it running down a trail. he seems like the kind of guy that will still wheel it, though i wouldn't judge him if he didn't. I personally have wasted plenty of time/money on far less beneficial activities :).

FYI, this is in Norway. Vehicle taxes are astronomical in Norway. New gasoline vehicles are taxed around 100%. That means a new 200 series is roughly a $200k investment.

Norwegians also work 30-35 hours/week and have more mandatory vacation time than most Americans have the option of taking. They have time and they have some money. They also have astronomical new vehicle prices unless you're buying full electric.

Given those tidbits of info, this build makes more sense. Restoring that 100 was probably a huge passion project and got him a very, very nice 100 series for far less money than he'd have spent on a regular 200. I envy the guy.

To each his own. For me- the frame off vid is valuable to give me insight as where to stick my fluid film wand so frame-work wont be needed in the far future.
