Hi All,

I am new to this forum, but lets give it a try: I have a friend owning an water drilling company for the people in Kenya. She has an FJ60 LAndcruiser, standing still.. (See pictures attached). Because this is the best car in their circumstances, they'd love to get it fixed. The car is equipped with a 3B engine, but the cylinder head is cracked.

Now, she's asked me to find a solution. It is quite tough to get parts for these in Kenya, and I have been looking around for any spare parts. Sure, they are there, but I was wondering what advice you might come up with.

I was thinking of putting a 12HT engine in the car. However, I myself never did a complete engine-swap, so I am curious to find what knowledge you guys (any girls around?) have.

So, here is the question: What would you do in our situation, and what help can you offer us?

Pictures are to follow asap...

2H, turbo'd 3b, or 12H-T. Not sure what sourcing/pricing these specific engines is like in Kenya.

The trans in the 3B will not mate to a H or 12 HT without heavy modification, so you would have to acquire the trans/t'case as well. Don't know about drive shafts or other issues.

The 3B is good motor; if you can find a replacement head or find a shop that can repair it that is certainly your easiest and least expensive route.

So this truck is a BJ60, yes ? Or a modified FJ60?

Fix it, find a guy that knows what to do, not one that knows how to talk.
If you need to import it and Kenya is still like it was to me you will have to bribe a few to get parts trough customs, problem is weight.

the work labour wont be the biggest expense, the head is, and while they have it off might do some other stuff.
But fix it and new head gasket is minimum to spend.

When I was working in Nakuru national park there was a 55 parked under a shed, they called it the tank, might still be there only problem was fuel consumption, rest was oke.
