More likely than door trim panels... Put in a request. That's the only way to create a demand.

Who in the world has been clammoring for rear drive shafts?
It's a rear axle shaft long side. Not the rear driveshaft.

again, are these failing at astronomical rates?
If you have a factory locked rear axle, the long side is an essential piece and it's applicable for all 80 series trucks from 1990-2007. Axle is damaged, truck no go.

I get that it's a necessary part, I was just wondering how many are in need of replacement that Toyota would make the financial decision to reacquire them, as opposed to, oh say, sun visors and door cards, which everyone I know needs.
Sunvisors and door cards are not necessary for operation of a vehicle
The program is only for parts that allow the truck to start, operate safely, turn and stop.

Speedometers will never happen. Aftermarket support exists.
Your circuit board will pretty much never fail based on MTBF.
