Could someone please post up some pics detailing the hitch and underside of a kaymar bumper. Both mounted and stand-alone would be ideal? Also anyone remember a link or thread where someone replaced their kaymar tail-lights with clear auxiliary lights?

Thanks in advance!

Did you look at the pics on MAF's site? http://www.man-a-fre.com/parts_accessories/Kaymar Rear Tow Bumpers 80 Series.htm It's a 2" receiver hitch.

You want clear lenses, eh? hmm...

I do not recall ever having seen a clear lense in that application. Might be an interesting backup light conversion. Hmmm...

That bumper is the regular variety. I have the deluxe which has cast returns for a more finished look. I've always wanted to buy one of those jerry can arms and then fab up a 54qt cooler carrier out of it.

Landtank. Any pics of the details you describe? I really want to see photos of the underside mounting points of the Kaymars. Also anyone know if a spare will still fit in the factory location or is this not possible? Oh yeah, what is the gauge steel and approximate weight of the Kaymar?

Thanks
Snow

Beefy, though the integrated trailer hitch hangs down a bit (but still not as low as OEM hitch). I could not get a 33" tire in the stock location due to the aforementioned integrated trailer hitch. A stock 31" would probably fit. But of course, one of the main reasons to buy one it to be able to get the spare out of there and onto a swing-away tire carrier!

The Kaymar bumper is HEAVY...it would take probably two people to lift it. When I mounted mine, I used a floor jack to position it into place. Probably about 60-80 lbs or so. You could ask MAF, especially if you will be shipping it.

I have been thinking of putting some reverse lights in the cut-outs that the bumper has. ORW or one of those places usually sell the generic work lamps or I know KC sells a back up light kit. I think those would fit the cut-outs. I haven't actually measured up the lights yet. Just another one of the waiting projects.

I also thought about getting the fuel can carrier, cutting it so it would fit two gas cans instead of just one.

Yeah, you're probably right on that, but I put mine on myself.

What pictures are you looking for?

Pics of the underside so that I can see exactly how the hitch is integrated into the bumper and how much room is left under the truck...and also how the bumper mounts. Thanks

I was thinking about the rear Kaymar w/swing-away for my 305/70 16 which are 32.8" I believe.

Can anyone else comfirm that the Kaymar with the swing-away doesn't work with 33" tires?

I believe he was refering to placing a tire underneith the vehicle as opposed to the swing-out.

IIRC, Rick is packing a 35 inch tire on his and I know PismoJim has a 305/70/16 on his.

Of course the Slee is the Cat-daddy bumper/carrier...:flipoff2:

"Of course the Slee is the Cat-daddy bumper/carrier...:"

Of course Slee's is the mac daddy, but $1,800 is a bit to chew on. If it was piece-mailed together like the Kaymar ($870 bumper, swing-away $400, etc....) was then it would be a no brainer. Haven't you noticed that I'm a cheapscape yet?

BTW for the people that have the Slee, I wonder if you can still access the stock tire lower armature?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Kaymar is rated for class III towing and the Slee is not.

Can someone guesstimate the weight of the Kaymar (someone guessed 60 - 80 lbs) and the weight of the Slee? I like to keep my rig as light as possible.

It's rated per Australian rules at 3500 kg (7700lb), so it's not quite a class III (10000 lb). See http://www.kaymar.com.au/toy80.html

Also- I was very disappointed in the stiffness of the side wings. When doing the Rubicon in August both sides flexed in enough, when taking a rock on the forward lower leading edge, to significantly dent the rear quarter panels. If I could figure out how to do it I would post a picture of what I'm talking about. I am designing a stiffener to either bolt or weld in to keep this from happening again.

CJungle -

The shipping weight of a Kaymar dual-pivot bumper, with all of the hardware - but NOT the swing gates - was 130 lbs. There was no pallet, rather a very sturdy, reinforced carboard container. Tough to estimate the weight of the container, but surely not much more than about ~25 +/- lbs (WAG).

Anyway, I believe the 60-80 lb estimate is probably a bit short.

Cheers, R -

rdublin, interesting. IF you can post a pic of what you are talking about that would be super. I'm totally up in the air between the Kaymar and the Slee.

I run a 35" spare on my Kaymar swing-away. Both Kaymar and Slee are excellent bumpers, but have different purposes. If you're doing mainly rock-crawling and other serious types of four-wheeling, get the Slee. Or if you don't mind cutting, get a 4+Plus with a bobbed rear frame for ultimate departure angle. If you enjoy more expeditionary off-roading, with some hardcore thrown in, get the Kaymar. It is much more versatile for expeditions (I've got a tire carrier plus jerry can carrier plus work lamp which fits into a nicely integrated mount on the back of the tire carrier, and you can get antenna holders, Hi-Lift holders, and other goodies to increase its useability).

That said, I've taken my Kaymar through the Rubicon twice with no problems (though what Rod mentions about the side wings is true [and I have also seen the same problem on Slee bumpers, as the frame and body flex independantly, and the bumper is attached to the frame], just have to ease it a bit over the big boulders...)

Weight differences between the two will be fairly negligible.

Great info, thanks. I do mild wheeling, but my stock rear bumper is almost ripped off from coming out of creeks and such. Not much rock crawling, but as the truck gets built, the wheelin' gets crazyer.

Looks like the Kaymar is what i need.
