For sale is a 2003 Toyota 4runner Sport Edition, 4.7L V8, 4wd - asking $5500 OBO. It was a southern vehicle until 2019, and has been undercoated before each winter with fluid film, so the frame and body have remained clean. It has 271,5XXK miles currently and is increasing, as it is my daily driver.
I’ve owned this vehicle for 10 years and for approx. 130K miles, and it’s been great. If it weren’t for needing something larger to pull a boat, I would have kept this and kept driving it. After baselining all the major maintenance items when I purchased it, it has been very reliable and never had major problems. I’ve kept maintenance logs in a spreadsheet, that I can share if you’re interested.
It’s well optioned, with moonroof, full time 4 wheel drive (4x4), and the reliable 4.7L V8(2uz). Being based on the landcruiser prado, it’s been extremely reliable and well put together. Even for it’s age it’s very quiet and doesn’t have any issues that would stop it from driving across the country.

Upgrades:
- New Suspension was installed in 2018. Suspension was made KYB and for the FJ cruiser. The components can be used on the 4runner to give it a .5” true lift(no spacers) and improved spring rate.
- Firestone Airbags Installed by 4WheelParts, new suspension was great for travel, but sagged under load.
Recent Service Notes:
- New tires in 2019 ~ 10k miles on them at this point
- Recent Transfer Case Service at Toyota Dealer
- A/C compressor replacement recently
- Refurbished OEM Stereo installed in March
- New OEM AirMix Servo Installed in March
- New Front Calipers and Brakes in March
- New Windshield in March
Known Flaws:
- It has the normal Toyota wear on the interior and exterior for its age, but would say mechanically it’s in very good condition.
- Steering rack weeps when very cold. Since it only happens a couple weeks out of the year(didn’t do it at all when I lived in the south), it hasn’t been an issue for me.
- Being a southern car, the sun was hard on the exterior and the paint faded on some body panels, clearcoat is flaking on roof and some plastics are faded.
