I did not see how this is sitting on top of each other? Is there a pad that fill this gap? Even if there is a pad. It might not have reload that hold it down. View attachment 3868488

The hinge to the center grafity of the spare tires give pretty long leverage. Any play in on the bearing and it would move a lot more at the tire.

Normally the middle part become the second point and reduce the leverage from the tire.

I see what you mean. There is a pad underneath:

The ease of having the tire mounted to the door (Prado style) is nice, but you lose the ability to open your rear window.
Having a swing-out, you have the use of your rear window, which we use often with our surfboards. But again, it's a double open every time you want something out back.
Tough decision.

Probably relies on tires size. I can still open my window, though I rarely do. Maybe 5 times in 4 years.

Is your spare a 225/25R13?
That would be about the only way I'd be able to see through and open my rear window without opening the swing out.

I can open my window with a 35x11.5x17 tire on the JW. Wheels are -10 offset, which might make a difference.
