As for your steering interfering with the gusset, show me how with pics. Gusset from Marlin goes on the top of the housing and there should be no problems. Only issue I can think of would be the torque rod tower. You're going to ditch that anyways. '79 was the only year w/out the factory gusset. Started the factory reinforcement in very early 80 trucks. My 80 come with it.

It's trapped in the barn and blowing 40-50 outside right now. One owner before me. It has spent it's entire life in the township in which I live. 147k. Original radio.

I bought a much better bed from @ferg or @theferg I don't remember. I can piece the two beds together to make one good one.

It looks nice. That inside is an a lot better shape than mine. Good score and very low miles.

Not me, the other guy.

Remove that shock and the mounts on both ends. The shock mounted there is useless. Clean up the engine compartment frame by removing the upper mount and the axle by removing that mount as well. And do something about that lower radiator hose before nature fixes it for you.

If those are trans cooler lines on the right side of the trans, get those secured soon too.

My first truck ever was a blue 1981 Toyota 4x4 long bed with white 8 spoke wheels and 31” BFG ATs. It looked exactly like the one below, except for the white wheels. That was in 1986. It was AWESOME for a high school senior to have!

Yeah you just cut that mount right off and weld the gusset over where it used to be. I agree with ferg it is useless.

Your truck reminds me a lot of my old crawler with the roll bar. It would be cool to give it some patina to match the rest of the rig.

This was my old 80:

Man that looks nice. Back in high school you had to have been the quarterback of the football team and dating the captain of the cheerleaders with a truck like that.

Cool I’m going to chop it off and weld that brace on. Nice Crawler, what did you do with it? That picture looks a lot like where I’m originally from, but then again it could be anywhere in the SW high desert. I want to make this a decently capable ride, nothing too extreme. I have this 84 4Runner who does all the dirty work when I play hard

That's an AWESOME 4Runner! Still sporting the 22R?

I'm from Tucson and that's in the Catalina mountains in the northeast. I ended up selling it to a guy who drove all the way from Louisiana to buy it! He loves the thing and drives it all the time. The link to the it's thread is in my signature \/

It was an awesome truck, and honestly I regret selling it, but oh well, that's how it goes!

It has a 4.3 on propane. Yeah I know what you mean, hopefully later on down the road I don’t regret selling one of these

Looks great, that melted window crank is too funny. I have 1980 short bed in blue with a Chevy 4.3l. It's like a big kid lego. I was debating on bedlining mine too, but I've decided against it and I'll just respray it some day.

Ended up making my own door cards out of some 1/4" MDF and spray paint. I'm hoping to upgrade to some ABS plastic in the future.

Yeah, something like that...

Or not.

They came out nice. Did you bolt them up to the same bracket holes or drill new ones?

The holes should have a plastic 'sleeve' in it for the panel clips to pop into. I would think screws would work in them. they are kind of like those plastic wall anchor for drywall.

Nice job on the bedliner! Did you just roll it on?
