Just curious, what's your OTHER vehicle?

My daily 2000 ES300. Has only 96k miles. My wheeler for the tight trails is a 97 taco with 288k miles. Just bought a 2014 LX570 to replace my raptor as the family hauler since we have a kid on the way. Can’t beat Toyota/Lexus reliability.

Currently..

1. 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo 6 speed in white over black. Big single. 1100whp+
2. 2013 Lexus LS460 charcoal over black. Stock.
3. 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser black over black. Suspension mods planned.
4. 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata dark blue over black. Track prepped.

My taste in cars vary greatly. Always looking to add something different. Currently looking to add a Tesla Model 3 LR for daily duties.

Have another LC ('16), and just added a 2022 4RUNNER TRD Off-Road Premium (with leveling kit, A/T's) as a vehicle to keep at mountain home. Bought new only b/c used was just outrageous $$. Gotta say, have been a bit underwhelmed with the 4Runner. Just a dog going uphill, and overall very poor acceleration. Using 4H a lot in the snow and ice. Can't decide if I like shifting back and forth (4H-2H), or wish I just bought some type of AWD vehicle. Couldn't find an AWD I liked with good clearance though.

Subaru Crosstrek has almost the same ground clearance with both at stock. Should've purchased a Subaru...just saying. I don't mind the 5th gen...we own a 200 series. 4Runner is no LC but I feel your criticism is a bit harsh.

We had three 5th Gens, I can relate. I don't know why we tried so many times to gel with the platform but it simply is a dog in regards to the power. I can only hope that Toyota gets it right with the 6th Gen.

A Crosstrek is fun if it's a manual, but the CVT is trash, there's no other descriptor.

We had 2014 with the CVT. The hesitation starting from a stop was almost terrifying sometimes. Got it for the wife to commute and drive around town. On a trip back from NM, the AT Fluid Temp CEL came on near Ocotillo on I-8 during easy driving and 80 deg ambient temp. The AC compressor clutch is garbage, and would frequently not engage while driving, then work, then stop, while driving.

It was fun driving down forest roads, decent MPG, and moderately comfortable. We wanted to like it, but pawned it off to Carvana.

You know they make a supercharger for the 5th gen, right?

But I always thought it was lame they abandoned the V8. GX460 powertrain would make a nice "up-model" 4runner and they'd get a pretty penny for it too.

Ridgelines are badass, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Ego be damned, it's a brilliant vehicle.
It’s like a Swiss army knife! So useful. Granted it does not tow as much as big boys (max 5000) nor off-road (no skids, no LO range, and front low to ground) but it has a brilliant AWD system for bad weather and has waaayyy more storage than LC could ever dream of! It allows for my LC to be come a garage queen/weekend car.

Okay so if a manual is what the person is after that narrows it down to a couple vehicles. But minus the FJC and Tacoma...Toyota hasn't offered a manual in a 4Runner since the 3rd gen and the land cruiser....can't remember the last time. Perhaps the 80 series...

Manuals are enjoyable but are certainly not a deal breaker so let's stop using that as a reason. I don't like CVTs either but options are limited.

As for the 5th gen...same platform as the 4th gen. Not sure what the threshold is for a quality vehicle but it's not that bad. I've owned a 3rd and 4th gen and currently own a 5th.

Ive owned the 4th gen V8 and I have a 5th gen supercharged. Would take the 4th gen over the 5th in a heartbeat. Wife sold the 4th gen for a 200 series.

The manual reference was in regards to the Crosstrek only because CVT is absolute and utter $hit, these are facts lol. In regards to the 5th Gen, we owned three, a SRP, a Limited full-time 4WD and a TRD Pro. They are a great vehicle at $40K and under but beyond that their shortcomings are too glaring and unacceptable especially when compared to more modern drivetrains and tech. At this point it's a 13 year old platform and its age is showing, but they will go down as one of the best of all time for their category.
