So I just saw a video about MB creating a jumping mode with their hydraulic suspension to free a vehicle from mud or sand. It just kind of hops itself out while the driver feathers the gas pedal. Has anyone tried hot rodding our suspension to mimic that effect?

Sounds like a normal German thing to do. Great way to break all the things.

The only hot rodding people do to AHC is rip it out for some aftermarket blech.

Meh, while I believe modern German tech would break if you looked at it wrong this didn’t seem that bad. It doesn’t jump all the way into the air or anything like a 90s low rider, it just looks like rhythmic up down shaking to be used in conjunction with the gas pedal. (Knocks on wood) my AHC is working pretty well after flushing it twice, replacing all four pressure globes and suspension bushings, and installing a new reservoir.

I'd love to see how the new Mercedes system compares to AHC in the 100/200 from a tech specs standpoint. The older Mercedes hydraulic system in the S class was/is around 5x the pressure of ours. The newer GLS with the pump/bounce mode is probably capable of more or has some massive accumulators to bounce that gigantic SUV like that.

I think you'd need new lines, shocks, pump, accumulators, globes, valves... every single piece of the system, haha.

Fascinating tech, IMO. The 100 AHC is cool in that it can reduce roll, but it doesn't attempt to counteract it like the Mercedes system does. There are some pretty impressive side by side comparisons showing a normal (still very luxurious) Benz driving on rough road next to one with the hydraulic system (E-Active Body Control). It's as impressive as those insane baja suspensions, except even more so because it can take a turn without wallowing like a sailboat.

All with a price tag to match, though.

Yeah I just saw a tech demonstration of it in sand and thought it looked handy to have. I grew up near the outer banks so having a car help rock itself out of beach sand seems like a cool feature. I think you’re right though, I’d probably need to refurb and beef up every aspect of the system and then figure out how to program a mode from scratch.

Get a 200 series LX with crawl control. Go look up videos from the Middle East and how it performs in sand.

Once you see the bounce you can't unsee it! And those side-by-side videos with the E-Active Body are nuts!
