Hurricane Creek has been bulldozed!

I was up in Asheville this past weekend and decided to visit HC while in the area, boy was I up for a rude awakening! Looks like the forest service has had enough of people driving on their road and making side trails. Any and all rocks/obstructions on the trail have been smoothed over. All the side trails, mud pits, hill climb are now inaccessible.

I'll get in touch with my contact person as he was warning of some possible issues in the future. The side trails, mud pits, and hill climb were never part of the original trail (and on private property). There were a few landowners not happy with recent trips out there, and I've seen a few YouTube videos that document the actions and didn't help the cause. Let me do some digging...

I was planning on a trip in the near future to plan the ride...

Brian,

Any word on this? We're inside of a month now.

We're still on regardless if we actually get on the Hurricane Creek Trail. We'll find alternate Forest Roads to travel if it is COMPLETELY blocked, which from what I've read is not the case, only the places that were off-limits. I'm going up in two weeks to scout everything out and plan the activities and route.

We're still on for the expedition... the route may change however.

Sleeping equip? What does this consist of?
Teethbrush? You mean Toothbrush? :)

Guys, I figured this was off after the last round of news. Dozer won't be done :( You can scratch Wellers off the list and free up a spot. Not happy about this, but maybe I'll get motivated one of these days and get her back together.

 R

Looking forward to this. Been getting the 80 ready - got a big surprise in store. Also getting our camp gear together and have a few new tricks to try. Actually, it's all new to me since I don't camp, but I do love the gear!

Any women going besides Sarah?

I would imagine heather is going. Need any help on the stowing or using of the camping gear?? I'm becoming an expert at that.

Sad we are missing this one.

Anyone getting excited?
Stay tuned for details but get your gear and trucks in order for a backwoods Appalachian adventure

Yes, looking forward. Got in some alcohol stoves and cooked up dinner on them tonight. Sliders are here, too. This week I'll prep, paint and install them and get my breathers extended. Not sure if I'll have all my aux lights done properly by the trip but I might be able to rig them. Cutting some window screens tonight. And I hope to have pics up of the big surprise by next weekend. And, yeah, Sarah is super excited for this trip - it's way more for her than me.

Are we planning on a big dinner one night or is it everyone for themselves all the time?

Great pics! They are making me only more excited for this trip.

Is it safe to assume that you and Brian scouted out some routes over the weekend? I hope we get those same blue skies while we are up there and not the rain we are having in Charlotte right now.

You are correct David! J and I (and the Oyster Diver) made a trip up there this weekend, and we're going to have a blast. Details will come but, we're purposely holding back to keep everyone surprised. We're going to give everyone registered that's going a PM with the details on the meeting point, necessary equipment, a run down of what we'll have (amenities, etc.) but the rest (that we deem needed) will be revealed on that Friday morning/afternoon. I hope everyone is planning on having the entire day off on Friday, because we've got a lot of expo driving on our hands....

Details to come...

Hurricane Creek Overland Rally 2013 is upon us....
