Get lost! Go explore!
I've been spending a bunch of time prepping for my HAMOM on Saturday, March 14th so I thought it was about time I posted up a thread!
When & Where:
March 14th starting @ 9:00. I'll be out and about in the garage around 7. Show up whenever you can throughout the day. I'll have drinks and food.
Here is a little background:
My Piggie has been off the road for over a year. I developed a 'knock' in my 2F on the way back from Crusin' the Parkway which progressively got worse. Strangely it would only knock when I was turning my wheel. With help from Dan and Marshall I was able to locate the knock. My harmonic balancer had come loose somehow and was wallowing out the keyway on my crank.
I thought this could be an easy fix. I pulled my 2F with help from Gehn and planned on only replacing the crank. One thing led to another and with help again from Marshall I realized my whole motor was FUBAR'd. A Toyota dealership rebuilt my head and apparently they couldn't get a few valves to seat on my head so out come a hammer and they peened the head to seat the valves. Nice work! One head toasted. My crank was also screwed and the timing gear on the crank was not c-clipped on and a freeze plug at the rear of the crank was ready to pop out. 1976 engine is disassembled for parts.
I found a 1983 2F for sale in Charleston. I drove down with the
and picked her up. My plan was to run it as-is. Come to find out it had problems of its own and I decided to rebuild. Once I had the dang motor disassembled I realized I could have just changed the oil and ran it - but I didn't know that until I had the 2F totally apart.
I started the rebuild on my own but ended up getting Atlanta Custom Creations to rebuild it for me. I have the motor back rebulit, new Downey Torquer cam, new CCOT lifters, new thermostat, ceramic coated exhaust manifold, all new seals and gaskets (mostly OEM), new water pump, rebuilt head, honed cylinders, new rings, turned and polished crank, and a new oil pump. Motor was repainted and looks sweet...but not as sweet as the BG2F.
While I was working on the motor I also started several other things that I would love to get finished up at my HAMOM. My rear bumper had been bent by the PPO. I had a friend straighten it for me and I've tacked together a dual swing-out setup for a spare tire and dual Jerry Can mount. I also will have some rear quarter protection tacked into place. I need to do a front cut and turn but won't have time for that at the HAMOM.
What I would love to get done at my HAMOM:
1) Install 2F and go through break-in process - maybe even take it for a quick drive.
2) Finish welding up rear bumper dual swing-outs and rear quarter protection.
3) Tie sliders to frame - almost all prep work done.
Bunch of small projects if we have time -
4) Install axle breathers and t-case breather.
5) Raddle can paint hood.
6) Strip remaining headliner insulation from inside of roof.
7) Install new fog lights.
8) Check operability of CB and radio.
9) Install kill switch - I have a slow drain on my batter from somewhere.
What is in it for you?
I plan on having a goooood time. I am going to use a few of the things we will be working on as learning and teaching opportunities such as work on the 2F, rear bumper fab (don't laugh - there aren't many 90 degree corners), sliders fab, and a few others if possible.
I'll have snacks available all day and plenty of ice cold
. I'll provide lunch for everyone (probably pizza or subs - I'll take requests!) and if you stick around long enough I'll do something for dinner also. If you show up early I'll have breakfast of Leopard Forest coffee, OJ, bagels, cream cheese and some doughnuts.
What do I need?
I need help! I need for you to show up!
I need a 220V welder. I'll have to plug it into the breaker box. I've never done this before but a contractor needed one one day and did it somehow.
Good torque wrench.
Marshall's bucket o bolts.
I look forward to seeing everyone!

Post up if you can make it!!!
