I've been spending a bunch of time prepping for my HAMOM on Saturday, March 14th so I thought it was about time I posted up a thread!

When & Where:
March 14th starting @ 9:00. I'll be out and about in the garage around 7. Show up whenever you can throughout the day. I'll have drinks and food.

Here is a little background:

My Piggie has been off the road for over a year. I developed a 'knock' in my 2F on the way back from Crusin' the Parkway which progressively got worse. Strangely it would only knock when I was turning my wheel. With help from Dan and Marshall I was able to locate the knock. My harmonic balancer had come loose somehow and was wallowing out the keyway on my crank.

I thought this could be an easy fix. I pulled my 2F with help from Gehn and planned on only replacing the crank. One thing led to another and with help again from Marshall I realized my whole motor was FUBAR'd. A Toyota dealership rebuilt my head and apparently they couldn't get a few valves to seat on my head so out come a hammer and they peened the head to seat the valves. Nice work! One head toasted. My crank was also screwed and the timing gear on the crank was not c-clipped on and a freeze plug at the rear of the crank was ready to pop out. 1976 engine is disassembled for parts.

I found a 1983 2F for sale in Charleston. I drove down with the :princess: and picked her up. My plan was to run it as-is. Come to find out it had problems of its own and I decided to rebuild. Once I had the dang motor disassembled I realized I could have just changed the oil and ran it - but I didn't know that until I had the 2F totally apart.

I started the rebuild on my own but ended up getting Atlanta Custom Creations to rebuild it for me. I have the motor back rebulit, new Downey Torquer cam, new CCOT lifters, new thermostat, ceramic coated exhaust manifold, all new seals and gaskets (mostly OEM), new water pump, rebuilt head, honed cylinders, new rings, turned and polished crank, and a new oil pump. Motor was repainted and looks sweet...but not as sweet as the BG2F. :grinpimp:

While I was working on the motor I also started several other things that I would love to get finished up at my HAMOM. My rear bumper had been bent by the PPO. I had a friend straighten it for me and I've tacked together a dual swing-out setup for a spare tire and dual Jerry Can mount. I also will have some rear quarter protection tacked into place. I need to do a front cut and turn but won't have time for that at the HAMOM.

What I would love to get done at my HAMOM:

1) Install 2F and go through break-in process - maybe even take it for a quick drive.
2) Finish welding up rear bumper dual swing-outs and rear quarter protection.
3) Tie sliders to frame - almost all prep work done.

Bunch of small projects if we have time -
4) Install axle breathers and t-case breather.
5) Raddle can paint hood.
6) Strip remaining headliner insulation from inside of roof.
7) Install new fog lights.
8) Check operability of CB and radio.
9) Install kill switch - I have a slow drain on my batter from somewhere.

What is in it for you?

I plan on having a goooood time. I am going to use a few of the things we will be working on as learning and teaching opportunities such as work on the 2F, rear bumper fab (don't laugh - there aren't many 90 degree corners), sliders fab, and a few others if possible.

I'll have snacks available all day and plenty of ice cold . I'll provide lunch for everyone (probably pizza or subs - I'll take requests!) and if you stick around long enough I'll do something for dinner also. If you show up early I'll have breakfast of Leopard Forest coffee, OJ, bagels, cream cheese and some doughnuts.

What do I need?
I need help! I need for you to show up!

I need a 220V welder. I'll have to plug it into the breaker box. I've never done this before but a contractor needed one one day and did it somehow.

Good torque wrench.

Marshall's bucket o bolts.

I look forward to seeing everyone! :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

Post up if you can make it!!!

On to round two.

How old is she now?:D

Yes. Wouldn't miss it. We need some preliminary work done.

Go ahead and install the breather fitting on the t-case along with some tube added to it. Best do it now cause we will forget it during the install.

Have you gotten the manifold ceramic coated yet?

Do you have a manifold gasket yet? If yes is it Toyota? If not I suggest getting a remflex gasket.

Oil for everything? (80 wt)

Do a search on 2f engine break in. Get the oil reccomended.

I'm assuming you will one day want dual batteries. Why not buy a dual battery switch and use it as the disconnect. That way your not doing it twice.

You have a tourque wrench?

I'd get as much of the engine put together cause it will take more than a day getting it back together and breaking it in.

Sweet. I've been working my tail off to get EVERYTHING prepped.

Planning on it - this is low down on my list below getting the 2F in so if we don't get to it then no worries.

Have you gotten the manifold ceramic coated yet?

Nope. I talked to the guy yesterday. I'm taking my exhaust manifold by this week after I get a shipment in from JimC and SOR. I need the gaskets and SOR heat deflector thingy so I can bolt the two manifolds together.

Yes - I have a Toyota gasket.

Nope - still need to go to Advance and pick that up but its on my list. I thought I needed 90 wt for the tcase and tranny.

2F is already loaded with oil and primed from ACC. IIRC ACC recommends 10w30 for these rebuilt 2Fs - I'll confirm w/ Michael though to be sure.

Hmmmmm - that is a thought. I really don't have the $ to do a dual battery set-up right now (another battery, isolator, cables, etc).

You have a tourque wrench?

Yup - but it is cheap. Can you bring yours?

I'd get as much of the engine put together cause it will take more than a day getting it back together and breaking it in.

The only things I still need to bolt to the motor is the thermostat housing (awaiting parts I ordered from JimC), water pump (arrived via Rick @ Royston and it appears to be the right one!), manifolds, carb and hoses. I plan on having ALL of this already on the motor and the tranny and t-case attached and ready to drop in. If I have time (and I just might) I'm going to go ahead and drop the motor/tranny/tcase in the Pig before the HAMOM so all we have to do is hook everything up.

Thanks!

Steve where is your breaker panel?

If it's in the garage I can wire an outlet beside it. Assuming you have two spare slots beside each other.

My breaker box is in my garage - back right near the water heater and door into the laundry room - door is in the same spot as in your garage.

You need two breaker switches open side by side?

putting this on the calendar, and as long as the :princess: doesn't have anything else for me to do, I'll be there. Want to hear this piggie go wheeeee

I'm in. What tools do you need? I have a clutch alignment tool,
a torque wrench and a power bleeder along with a few other items.
What do you need?

I'll need the clutch alignment tool (even though I hope to have that done before the HAMOM) and power bleeder - bring your torque wrench just in case.

Thanks!

Well come by anytime and get the tools you need before the group thingie.

I think I can make this, will know as I get closer.

I will bring the Cado, and I hope I have a soft top by then!

I spent about half an hour last night trying to get the dang pulley mount off of the Sag pump - finally got it off with a gear puller and Troll's compressor and a cheap a$$ impact wrench. Now I have to figure how to press it onto my rebuilt Sag pump.

Troll - the thermostat you gave me to try didn't work - it was too tall. I'm going to order some small parts from RHT today.

Waiting on some parts from SOR.

Received parts from JimC yesterday - thanks Jim! The BVSV's are hard to fit in the t-stat housing. They make it about 2 turns in and dat's it. The threads are caked with crap. I need to tap 'em.

Also have all motor, tranny, tcase mounts now painted up nicely - clean and black. I also painted the PS pump pulley and mounting hardware shiney and black.

Need to clean up the tranny and t-case a bit b/c I'm anal like that.

Does anyone have a tap set I can borrow? I need to tap the BVSV holes in the tstat housing.
