it's your hamon jerry, I'll help you fold clothes if you want, dismanteling the 45 sounds like fun. make sure you take plenty of pictures.

I'm in to help on the 45 - but I'd rather slam my junk in a sliding glass door than fold laundry.

I agree on waiting on Longs - if it's in the budget, best to knock it all out at once and looking at the pics, I wouldn't run 'em on a DD. Sorry for the bad new there Jerry.

The new style longs.... or Gen III will last around 80k before a rebuild and should another 80 afterwards so you will get around 160k with the strength to back them up.

Personally I don't know why anyone would drop money on OEM when that option is out there.

Where you planning on taking it to get it sandblasted?

I call around to get updates on the various people that do it. I've very tempted to go where Jon had his tub done since they can also give it a nice coat of the primer...

How are you going to lift the body off the frame?

That's what friends are for...

Again, we are in agreement. If I get 80k on this 80, I'll be very happy...

Damn, I didn't realize that they lasted that long in DD use!

 It should be much lighter than the 60 body was.

Yeah, I've got one Jerry can, and was planning on picking up a cooler specifically for the swingout. Cooler was just going to carry drinks anyways. So your dimensions sound good.

Let me know, I haven't dropped mine off yet but it's ready to go. Just a matter of getting a day to drive up there. I think the place that Jon brought his is a good deal, and Jon said they did a great job.So, if you're planning on taking yours maybe we can work something out. I think you're going to borrow a trailer correct?

My trailer is available for short term use. I may have to trailer the 40 down east in the not so distant future so I can't offer it for extended periods right now.

Let's talk about this once I touch bases with the local sandblasters and their schedules. I'd love to be able to just put the parts on your trailer and take it to whomever is going to blast the old paint and rust off the 45. That way, I could leave the trailer on their site so they could just put it all back on and away I'd go.

I'll get busy tomorrow with some calls and see what I can manage...

I have done nothing toward my swingout, I've been focused on the axles to swap.

I looked at the ideas, over $1k for the tire mount and ladder, wow...

Which side are you planning on having the tire mounted? I like the driver side due to better visibility.

I'm seeing the "base" out of a nice piece of 2 X 3, with some 2 X 2 for the tire mount upright and arm. Or, I could bend a 90 out of the 1.5/0.25" square that wouldn't need any gussets (I'd gusset it at the base) and could be easily tapped to mount the Hi-lift on to.

For the ladder, 1.5" round, same for the cooler/jerry can carrier. Make the carrier removable by using some 1.25" to slide the carrier over, held in place by trailer hitch pins or similar. Drill 1.5" holes into the 2 X 3 base, sleeve it with some 1.5" tubing, slide the 1.25" tubing into the sleeve and slide in the hitch pin. At least, thats one way to do it, if it makes any sense to you.

For plastic, an easy find is a piece of plastic cutting board that is relatively cheap, easy to find and replaceable when necessary.

Just some ideas off the top of my head after a couple Smuttynose IPA's...

Jerry,

Found some weld-in pull pins for the swingouts. McMaster Carr has some, so are you thinking the 2x3" with the 3" side vertical?
