In 16", I like BFG AT 285/75/16's. I put those on a LHD FJ45 troopy that I used to own, stock suspension.

Any pics of that truck you used to own?

Local tire guy is trying to push me into these.

Cooper Tires - Discoverer ATR - All-Terrain Tires

He thinks the Cooper HT is going to look a little "sissy" on the troopy. I read some reviews on this tire online, most think it's pretty good, although there were a few people complaining of noise.

235/85/16 is a good size (Mark A. recommends it), but 255/85/16 is also a pretty good size if you want something a little taller.

Update from the last 2 nights. Got my stuff back from blasting on Wed. night and got a few things hung up in the booth. Last night (Thursday) I got home from work, got out in the booth right away around 6:30 and started spraying DP90LF. Went good, took a little longer than I thought since it was pretty cold last night and the fan pulls down the temps pretty quick. It needs a little time to recover and heat back up and allow the primer to dry. After 3 good coats I was done about 9 pm and decided to call it a night since the primer need time to dry.

I really wanted to get that frame in there by Saturday morning, since my wife has given me a free hall pass to get this frame painted this weekend. So it was important that I get the parts cleared ASAP so I could handle them Friday night. So, this morning I got up at 4 am  before work and spent the next hour and half out in the booth spraying DCU2021 this morning.

Turned out great, and this will allow a buddy of mine to come over late this evening and help me haul the axles out and frame in. Plan is to do the same to the frame tomorrow.

Matt

So the DP90 LF is just the lead free expoxy type primer with a black tint and then a clear coat?

Yep, the #90 stands for the color, in the case 90 is black primer. And then I just cleared the primer. I could shoot a black base color and then clear, but there is no reason in this case. Base provides no corrosion protection or anything like that, it is just color.

If you just want a black, then there is no reason to shoot a color coat of black on top of black primer.

I blasted the rims and shocks on this rig as well. Rims are stock split rims and the shocks were a KONI heavy duty shock that looked pretty new, but just in a redish orange.

When I spray the rims I am going to shoot DP50LF, which is gray, and clear that. I did that on my 78 FJ45 LPB and it pretty much looked like a factory color.

The shocks I am going to spray DP48LF, which is white and clear.

When it comes to the body, I will end up spraying DP50LF, then a base color, and then clear, since I will be very specific on the body color.

Looks freakin' AMAZING!!!! Thanks for sharing the steps and the products you are using. I've read alot about the PPG products you are using and it's great to see the method to the madness!!!

As for pics, MUD member 'erics' bought the rig and currently has it. He may have some pics. But, now seem I remember he took the tires off to run on the his 40.

Any pics of that truck you used to own?

Based in part upon Matt's 45LBP build, I did the wheels for Dad's 40 in DP50LF and DCU2021. As predicted, they turned out great.

I am a huge fan of the PPG line in general. It had been a long time since I painted anything, but a relatively inexpensive paint gun + good quality paint = I look like I can paint. :)

Since I had the hall pass today from the wife I got a good solid day in today on the troopy, pretty much all frame work.

I didn't get any pics, but there were a couple things that needed a little a little touch up with the welder I saw after it had been sandblasted. Looks like once upon a time someone torched the front bumper bolts off and burned into the front bracket a bit. I fill it back in with the welder and cleaned it up with the zip wheel, really wasn't that big of deal but figured this would be the time to do it.

Pics pretty much say it all. First few pics are the frame sandblasted, the next few are in DP50LF and the last few are cleared, actually just set the gun down about an hour ago. Very happy with how it turned out!

While the primer was drying this afternoon I jigged up my sandblasting gear and did a little touch up on some of the Winnipeg blasted parts. Few of them they get about 99% but the anal rententive side of me comes out and needs to get that last 1%.

Frame it going to hang in the booth until Monday afternoon. Got a couple buddy's coming out Monday afternoon to help me take it down. Hoping to hang the rims Monday night and at least get those primed, and maybe cleared Tueday. After that keep hanging and spraying more parts. ;p

I seem to remember in one of your other build threads some talk about going with some less expensive clear and now it looks like you're back to using the good stuff on the frame and axles. Didn't care for the results?

Beautiful, Matt. I'm impressed with how well that prang on the left rear tail light came out.

Can't wait to see the rims. How did the spare clean up?

I think you are refering to the Omni clear I used on that bike I built while I was building the lv or lpb, I can't remember?

I've always used DCU2021 (the good stuff) on the landcruisers. The bike was more of a budget project, so I went with that cheaper clear. I don't drive that bike much anymore, but it has seemed to hold up well?

I guess with my Landcruisers I just like to stick with the good stuff. :)
