I also started to disassemble the front axle birfields, got about half way done, but no pics...sorry. On the frame I also did a few other small things, so it' pretty much ready for blasting. Once I finish up the front axle, both axles and the frame should be ready to blast. I have several other parts I need to take apart as well, but if things go right...maybe ready for everything in a couple weeks? Hopefullly!!!

Little bit of an update to report. Few pics of the troopy body being uncrated at Aqualu, Todd is a busy guy and there finially getting and oportunity to start working on it. I guess if you haven't figured it out by now, Aqualu is fabricating a LHD troopy body for me. This is the first Troopy body Aqualu has ever got there hands on to copy. Supposedly measurements are being taken, CAD drawings being worked up on the computer and the CNC machine may be fired up soon!

I am really hoping to get the frame, axles and other misc. heavy steel parts blasted by next weekend. Also hoping to get a few more pics from Aqualu as the troopy body progress's.

Todd sent me a few extra pics of his place, pretty neat stuff. Also a pic of a saying he has hanging from the ceiling. He sent me a pic of that after I sent him an email requesting we discuss a few things. I said in me email, that I assume you will know most of these things, but you know what assuming does, it makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me". I got that last pic from him shortly after that email I sent.....I thought that was pretty funny.

I think I'm going to plant this seed right now...even though I might not follow through on it. This request goes out to all the HJ47 troopy owners, I think 81 to 84 with the stock 2H, 4 spd tranny and T case. Todd at Aqualu made a comment that he thought that there seemed to be a little more floor raised up on the right side near the T case and tranny.

Not sure if any of you can confirm this or not? If any of you guys have a later model FJ40 and a troopy side by side. I had that 81 FJ40, but my troopy body is gone.

Anyway, I sent some pics I took before I blew it apart to Todd today of that area underneath, but he may need more....not sure yet. So, if any of you HJ47 Troopy guys read this...you may be needed.

More progress to report.

Made my way up north into Canada today, specifically Winnipeg. I had made a call on Monday to Winnipeg Sandblasting and said they had time Wed. morning to blast my junk. I got there right away this morning at 9 am, just as they asked me to. As usual things usually don't go quite as planned. What was supposed to start at 9 am turned into 2 pm. Things finially got underway, but I didn't get out of there until 5 and home around 7pm. I was hoping to start priming tonight, but looks as though that will have to wait until tomorrow night.

Regardless, I got my stuff blasted and that was a big step. I have the equipment to sandblast myself, but I hate it so much that I just prefer to pay someone else to do it. I think it ends up costing about the same, since sand costs me a lot more to buy.

Also dropped about $700 today on some great chemicals. On all my black parts, frame, axles, etc... I am going to spray 2 to 3 coats of DP90LF and clear the primer with DCU2021. I've done this on some other projects with excellent results, probably the best in look and durability.

I drove through the big town of Steinbach on the way to Winnipeg, it's about an hour north of me. I know the town of Grunthal well, I've got a lot of friends who ride motocross who go up there quite often.

Wondering if any of you 16" split rim guys can recomend some tire options?

Planning on using the stock 16" split rims. I will find out the size and model of the tires on my FJ45LPB tonight. I know they are coopers, but I am not happy with them. They seem noisy on the highway and ride rough, at least rougher than most cruisers I have driven.

The majority of driving will be on the highway. Looking for something that is quiet and rides nice. Larger dia. would be prefered as well.

I bought 5 of these complete with tubes and liners. They are take-offs from HZJ75 pick-ups that are used in mines. I have not got them monted yet, issues with my splits, but I expect them to ride very rough and last forever.

John, who works at SOR, sells them as a side business and was very easy to deal with. Shipping to Montana was about $150 and tires where $50 each. Another $10 for the tube/liner each. Good deal for a very close OEM tire.

I should add that these tires are made in Japan and do not have a DOT number on them. Technically it will not be legal to use them here in Canada, I think. I don't know the laws in the US but it may be an issue if you need to get some sort of state inspection when you are ready for the road.

The Toyo M-55 comes in 255/85R16. That's what I was planning for my 45 (unless BFG decides to make the AT KO in a 33" skinny for a 16" wheel). I've heard good things, and I really, really prefer a good AT tire. I suspect you see similar roads as I do--that is to say snow packed, icy for long, long periods of the year.

EDIT--looking at the tires John is selling, I think I might have to pick up a set of those instead, if only to try them out...

What do you guys think of these?

Cooper Tires - Discoverer H/T Plus - All-Terrain Tires

I was just surfing the net late last night (after painting of course) and was looking at these. Thinking in maybe a 235 85-16, that would be about a 31.9" tire ish?

I know it's not the usual agressive tread pattern everyone likes to see on these rigs. I drive my stuff, but it's usually on pavement or gravel roads. It will see a few trips to the lake and camping trips pulling the jet skis, but not a lot of off road action.

In 16", I like BFG AT 285/75/16's. I put those on a LHD FJ45 troopy that I used to own, stock suspension.
