Found booty. I have owned 14 Landcruisers and have yet to buy one that I did not find at least one round of ammo in a rig....spent or many live rounds. Might be a little more rare in Australia.

I'm goint to put the cart ahead of the horse here a bit, but I want to get the ball rolling on this sooner than later.

Does anyone know of mud member(s) that are located in the middle east ie: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, ect... or maybe even South America or Africa (assuming South African models are LHD?).

I would like to purchase the bolt in dash center portion and ash tray out of a FJ40 or 45 model, needs to be LHD. Preferably clean and straight.

I just pulled the one out of my troopy, pretty easy to get out. Hoping something they could run down to a salvage yard and pick up fairly easily?

Thanks in advance, Matt

Ah yes, going LHD drive eh? I'm guessing you will be keeping the firewall in place and swapping the dash sheet metal and glovebox and then modifying the footwell for the steering column?

I ended up on my truck swapping the whole firewall out due to various rust problems, however it would be good to avoid that maneuver I think. There's a lot of funny little details to the swap over - for instance you'll need a LHD version of the pedal bucket and pedals, along with the LHD heater blower. And the windshield frame too - or are you thinking of cutting the lower panel out for the wiper arms and flipping it? And what about the steering set up?

If I'm digging at your surprise too much, let me know and I'll throttle down...

So far all the bolts on this rig have come out fairly easy. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that it hasn't been exposed to much moisture.

I haven't found much more of the wacky tabaccy to equal 10 plants, but I am getting closer.

I've been stripping the troopy down the last couple evenings, unfortunetly I have not found a bottle of wine yet....but, there's still hope. ;)

Matt

Just got your PM - are you talking about the panel that's sitting in the green basket in the back of the Land Cruiser in the picture you attached? Is that different on the LHD / RHD trucks?

That's the one. It's the same, but everything is reversed.

Pm sent back to you. :)

Hey Buckroseau,
Wondering if you have any interest in selling just the actual ashtray part (the piece that pulls out) from the part you pulled out? My late 83 Troopy was missing its ashtray when I imported it, but I would love to fill the hole that is there in the dash. If not, I totally understand.
Thanks,
Abe

I believe mine was missing that as well.

Okay, my '82 doesn't have that part... I expect it to be extremely difficult to find but I will keep an eye out for you.

You'll only find that dash plate on a 1983 or 1984 truck.

I tried to locate one of the LHD dash panels during my rebuild, with no luck. I searched and searched, and I even considered slicing and dicing the RHD one I had up to produce a LHD facsimile, but decided against that plan.

You're looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, to say the least. Have you considered trying to locate one in Europe? There are several countries that drive on the right side of the road, Germany coming to mind right off the bat, and France too I believe.

Is it not the same panel as the Canadian BJ42's? Seems a lot closer than Europe or Middle East.

If it is the same then I know someone who has a few though he may not want to part with one.

Not a lot of time right now, long day. Figured I would post up a few pics before I head off to bed.

Body off, frame stripped down. Hoping to get a chance to work on it again on Sunday...hoping! ;)

Pics of the bolt in dash. The same, but everythng on it completely reversed.

One other thing I just thought of. LHD tach? I know there is a thread where a guy took a RHD and converted it to a LHD. So, if I can't get one of those it wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would be lot easier. Figure where there is a LHD dash there more than likely is a LHD tach.
