I've done a search, and still the ??? Re-smog? UPDATE!!!
I need to do a complete resmog. I've has this truck for 6 months, and have been driving with out an inspection sticker, but really want to re-smog and get it on the road for travel. I bought this thing with blind love. Blind being the key word. Blind to all the vacuum leaks, rust, carb trouble. I think I was high on all the exhausts fumes on the test drive. I HAD to have it. But before my love turns into hate, I really need to put alot of work into the engine.
I figure I can't really get started on the vacuum trouble without the smog equipment in place. Or at least it seems like less trouble in the end since I need to pass emissions anyway.
So does anyone have inexpensive smog equipment they have removed?
Has anyone else done I re-smog?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I only have the Haynes manual, for now. But after reading ya'll's thoughts, I know I need the FSM.
FYI, I have no prior mechanical knowledge or experience, outside what I've learned here and done on my FJ. Axle rebuild. Horn fixed with 3 washers. Gutted interior. Steering gear box adjustment. Replaced front brake lines from axle to caliper. All done while online, reading this web-site.
But if I am to make good on this invesment, and keep this truck alive I need to do some serious work, quick. Someone did some really shotty "custom work" on this thing. Horrible job. The PO only put 700 occassional miles on it, in 3 years.
Serious work, for me, will require serious help. Thanks in advance.
