Is this the type of transmission fluid pump we want?

After hearing a lot about tranny fluid exchangers that either are or aren't safe to use based on the pressure they operate at, I was wondering if this one I came across was what you want for tranny flushing.

This one says it exchanges fluid at about one quart per minute (12 quarts, in approximately 12-15 minutes). Good?

The accepted method is a "drain and fill" basically run the truck so the trans is hot, pull the drain plug on the bottom of the pan, refill with fluid and check the level. No need for a machine. (the draining is done with the truck off, you check the level with the engine on.)

or just pull one of the cooler lines and drop it in a bucket and refill through the dipstick as the fluid is pumped out.

That machine is similar to the "BG" machine that uses one bladder that holds the new fluid. The out cooler line is connected to one side of the machine with an empty bladder.
You start the truck and the transmission pumps out the fluid in to the empty bladder . As it fills up, it pushes on the bladder with the new fluid that is hooked up to the return line of the cooler. Basically doing what you said and since it only uses the transmissions own power to complete the process.

The only concern with your original method is being able to refill as fast as the fluid pumps it out.

Others have placed the return line in a bucket with new fluid so that it can suck it in.

I had mine done with a BG machine.

HTH:cheers:

Good luck getting all the old fluid out with the "accepted method".

Good luck getting all the old fluid out with any method. Short of taking the transmission apart and draining everything there is no way to replace all the fluid. Drain and fill 4 times will replace the same amount of fluid as a pump or anything else.

assuming the old and new fluid never mix and you can cycle out 100% old fluid each time you pop the drain plug.

Of course they mix, how could they not? The transmission pan only holds a few quarts and it is pumped into the pan and sucked out of the pan, it's a big mixing trough...

cheers,
george.
