I've been considering buying another landcruiser and I have it narrowed down to either a FJ55 and a FJ60

I like the utility of the 4 doors and I think the 55 looks much better then the 60...No I know the 55 has the nic name the Iron pig, and I'm guess that it refers to the weight of it...

So here's my question:
How much does a FJ55 with the 2f and 4 speed weigh?

I've driven my fathers 1987 Fj60 and yeah it's alot slower then the 1977 FJ40 we have, but it has a ton of emmissions equipment holding it back, and I figured that a 1976-1978 FJ55 would feel about the same to drive, am I wrong?

Curb Weight is 3990 to 4030 lbs.

tlc4x4

I remember that most of the pigs I have driven really remind me of what it was like to drive my 78 FJ40. Just a little heavier. It is still 0 to 60 in 5.3 miles though. I much prefer driving a pig to my old mans 60.

Also the nic name "Iron Pig" come from a short story written long ago, back when the knights were orginally started.

buy the pig, keep your eyes out for one in decent shape, you will have to deal with some rust, but in my opinion you can get them for a decent $ vs. the fj40's now, I have a 70 pig I am restoring and am stoked on the project and the deal I got. start looking and post up when you find the snout you want.

Howdy! I don't know the numbers, but I think the weight difference between the 55 and the 60 is only a couple hundred pounds. 20 years ago, I upgraded from a 40 to a 55 for the space available to take a family of 5 plus a big dog camping and 4x4. I immediately did a spring-over and 35's, and I loved it! 10 years later, I did the V8 and power steering, and even later, lockers and onboard air. Next project will be a ToyBox double transfer case setup. Observers have noticed that I can certainly go fast enough, but occasionally not quite slow enough!! John

That's an offer I'll take you up on some time Clay... What engine is in yours?

its still the 2F, an injected 5.0 is sitting in my garage waiting for me to make up my mind.

Just do it. Stocker to rocker, you'll love it. 55s have the rarity factor going. And how willing are you to do damage to it? 60/62s have some creature comforts, like p/s, and a/c, all that can be added to a 55.

Go slow, enjoy the journey.

that is the beauty of my pig.... bought it for cheap in less than stellar mechanical condition... built it up and there it is.. a pig to wheel in the woods... it was far from a restoration candidate with a 1970's 350 conversion done with homemade adapters and wheeling scars from the Rubicon and all over the west in its history. It is very cool to still have it bashin through the trails in it's twilight years.... but I would not wheel one that could be salvaged. There are enough beaters already out there... find a beater to beat and drive the pig.
