I just found your posting on mud! Wow nice pics. Are those my favorite tires (Toyo MT's)? Looking forward to getting to VA, can't wait to show you the 200 Series rig I built. In the mean time here is a pic of a real 1985 4Runner with new Toyo Mt's (315/75R16's). I don't see any 200 in the 4Runner. Also, the 80 Series (Labrador Trip) got a new set of GY Duratracs 305/70R16's which replaced the Nitto 285's which served us well. The set of Toyo's in the back of the 4Runner had 28K miles and measured 14-15/32" tread when I sold them. New depth is 21/32nds I believe. They wore very well.

I love the look of the wheel and tire you added to the 200. Is your test trail local? :steer: Hum.....

Eric,

How do you like your Toyo tires?

The pics are from last week when we went down to Orange VA and spent some time with Garrett.

Why did you switch from the Nittos to the Duratracs?

What vehicle are you guys driving down?

The 4Runner is now on its 3rd set of Toyo MT's. I've been selling them once they get to about 70% tread. The last set, seen in the back of the 4Runner have 28K miles on them. This offers a lower MT entry price for fellow mudders and I can drive on the top half of the tread at all times! It adds the expence of an extra mount and balance in the life of a tire but I'm good with that. Performance wise, I love them. There is always a bit of compromise, but the Toyo's do great in the mud and rocks, handle well on the highway, do a great job for a MT in rain and snow and wear very well. Down sides are weight and extra noise compared to an aggressive AT. For comparison sake, I will be mounting the Toyo's to the 80 some day to see how they do.

As for switching from the Nitto's they were our second set (1st on a suburban) and performed very well. These set on the 80 LC got us wheeling in Moab, Sand beaches at the Outer Banks, and across the Trans-Labrador Hwy without a hitch and also wore very well. I sold the 285/75R16 set with about 38K miles on them and they still had 11-12 32nds of thread left (new was 16 or 17/32nds). The one down side was snow travel, my wife mostly noted that they didn't feel as grippy as they should. I've read others comment on the snow travel not being great. That said, she aired them down a bit to 35psi and was happier with them. That said, I was up for new rubber (see above) and had a buyer for them. I found many MUD members raving over the Goodyear Duratrac's and thought I would take a shot with them. They offer a "snowflake" rating, not just the M+S rating a typical AT would have, and they fit my bill with a more aggresive look. This tire truely crosses the line between an AT, Snow Tire & Mudder. They are quieter than the Toyo MT's, Noiser than the Nitto's. They also give up some sidewall strengh to the Toyo's and the side digger lugs are more show than rock crawling go. I have a suspecion that they will not wear as well as either of the Toyo or Nitto's but I'll have to wait and see.

We will be driving the 80 Series down to visit. You can test ride the Duratracs and give you opion as well. If time permits it would be fun to get to a dirt road, but that is alway a little tough unless you have a playground close by?

We are going to Uhwarrie April 28-May 1st. It would be great for you to come show the 100 Series group what 200's can do! PM me or clicky the link in my sig if you think you may be able to make it. Great build and pictures, I stay current with it every time I come to the 200 section. Great job and great looking rig!

check out capital land cruiser club too. I am the only 100 and i get made fun of. Mud search it.

Amazing thread...full of cruiser porn. Keep up the good work..whereabouts in NOVA are you? I'm out of manassas..never see anything like your 200 thats for sure!

2000UZJ,

Thanks for the heads-up on the Uhwarrie wheeling trip but I will be knee deep in work during that time.

D21FJ60,

I am out of Woodbridge.

Just an update on the Toyo's and the Cruiser.

After a trip from VA to AZ (Overland Expo) and a move from VA to WA the Toyo tires are still running strong. Still just a slight rub at full turn and also when the rear tires are fully stuffed, but outside of that the 34's are doing well. As the miles are increasing so is the road noise, but hey it's a Mud tire so I can't complain. They have handled well offroad (trails / fire roads) and no problems with slipping during the heavy rains and snow.

Sbly, Thanks for pointing me over here from ExPo. Truely a awesome build and im sure a great time/adventure in your life playing with the truck. Thanks soo much for posting.

Sidenote, how are the Toyo M/T's working out for you? Are you glad you made the switch from a a/t to a m/t? Worth the price increase, road noise, Mpg's etc..?

EDIT: BTW: oficially added the Labrador Highway to my growing list of places I need to go. :)

Blackwater,

I'm glad to see you made it over to the MUD website. If you have any questions about the 200 series, the guys over here can answer them.

As for the tires, I haven't had a problem with the MT's so far. To be honest with you, for the type of driving that I do, I could get by with the AT's. But I like the idea of having the additional traction. It's one of those things, I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

When I researched the Toyo OC MT's, I did consider the price, additional road noise and loss of MPG. But my primary factor was I wanted a tire that would work well in the mud covered trails of the Pacific Northwest.

If you do get a chance to drive the Labrador Highway, you won't be disappointed. There's a lot to see and a lot of exploring to do up there.

Don't get to MUD much and when I do you will usually find me in the 120 forum but I just had to say that you did a great job with your 200. Beautiful! Looking forward to future updates.

JaminGX,

Thank you sir, but to be honest, it was the guys at IPOR that made it happen.

I should be posting some updates when I get the Helton hot water heater installed and then when we get started on our Dalton Highway trip.

OK, I'm horribly late to this thread since I never really visit the 200 forum. Congrats on a fantastic looking and performing LC. I have to respect anyone who goes all in as you and your wife do! Well done!

Enjoy it and keep us posted!

Sibyl please do post on the water heater was looking for similar options but was just gonna do the Coleman water on demand system. Very interested.

Sbly, it's hard to not stare at these pics. The more aggressive tires and the TRD17s really set off what is a perfectly modified Land Cruiser. Eric H's 80 looks great too.

We added a few new scratches, but outside of that, the truck worked well on the trails in the Tahuya State Forrest. With the Toyo M/T tires aired down to 25psi it had no problems going up, over or thru any of the trails.

Pardon my stupidity, but can anyone explain why I can no longer post any pictures. All I get is a blue question mark symbol when I attempt to upload my pictures.

Hmm. Odd. Try posting the address only of the pic. I'll try to open it. May be an issue at the host end.
