Hello everyone! I'm a member of Rising Sun 4x4 Club of Colorado and planning to be in the Phoenix area September 23-28.

Won't be there in time for your next meeting, but would love to get in some desert wheeling if anyone's looking to get out either early in the week or on Saturday the 28th. Probably looking at a moderate trail as I will have the wife's 40th Ann 80 on this trip. Thanks in advance!

Hey folks,

More or less new to the sport. Seeking opportunities to learn the easier way, I'm old enough to know hard knocks are for the younger crowd.

Seems there are two active crowds, CSC and AZLCA. Still digging for meeting info for both. I'm a west sider, looks like one of the meetings is always east side (CSC in Tempe, Nov 15). And I'm still looking for a formal AZLCA meet: do I need to join to attend?

I own a 2012 FJC. Not 100% happy with the front end flutter that's plagued it since I drove it off the lot, but it does okay off-road. And unlike my other 4x4's I've owned, I feel like its okay to take it off the beaten paths. Still noodling over any mods - rock rails and sliders are right up there. And it seems any lift is never enough - there's always a rock just an inch bigger than your shocks - and places where you can tip over just got more risky. Contemplating a winch. In the northwest we had trees to strap to for help; down here in the desert, well, those are pretty rare, so a winch doesn't seem as useful; and I haven't seen a good solution for a winch mount except full bumper replacement or kits scabbed on by welding (prefer something removable in case I sell).

Did the Colorado Overlook Trail a in September, made it to the last dip before the cupcake rock. Having no rails opted to walk - looked like I'd take door damage if I missed a line and slid off the intended rocks. At least the paint on the rocks hinted it could happen. Fun trail though, used the skid plates at one spot (I was taking the harder of the paths for the experience). Left front dipped off a step so I backed off to take a slightly smaller step. Actually a pretty fun trail. Also, a puddle on the way out was pretty exhilarating. It was a puddle right? Well, based on dry puddles down the trail, it was at least 24" deep, muddy, and entirely two ruts. The wave of mud that ensued is still on my truck. I was pretty happy I had thrown it into 4x4 before I went into the puddle. It seemed worse leaving, and I felt pretty bad for the nice clean Buick Enclave that was about to find out how deep the puddle was (I tried to warn him, but he was a bit smug).

Anyhows, see you at a meeting somewhere.

Tim

Both are good groups, and several of us are member of both groups. More chances to get back outdoors on a trail run! :D

CSC has a monthly meeting whereas the AZLCA does most of thier meeting stuff via email and on the trail(?)

You dont have to join just to attend and check it out. If you find yourself getting into it, you should consider joining up with one or both groups - its cheap.

Hello I have a bone stock 97 fzj 80 and live in the Tempe area. I have been itching to get on some easier trails since again I am bone stock and would like to meet some club members to kind of feel out the group.

AZLCA - West side

Tim,
I'm with the AZLCA and CSC also. Live on the
West side - Surprise (actually, Sun city Grand).

I drive a 2007 4Runner with lifts, sliders, skid plates, and a few other options. I'm retired and flexible on run dates.

If you want to meet sometime in the West Valley, let me know.

Regards , Ron Drwinga

Ron - sounds like a plan. Since I'm stock without any of those, I can sit back and watch you crawl over things :) Are you going to Harquahala? And, do you know of any upcoming AZLCA meets coming up?

Hello From Tucson

New to this CSC forum but would like to participate in local activities. Bought a "new to me" '97 two months ago. Too good to pass up on but now I need to sell either the '77 or the '92. :hhmm:

I'll try to make the next meet.

Frank

hellz yes, another white 80 :bounce:

geez, another white 80

welcome

Hey every buddy..

I'm been lurking and leaching off this website for a couple years now and I don't think I ever officially posted up my cruiser or myself. I'd like to get more involved with the CSC's, I've met with a couple CSC members and I hope to make it to one of the meetings asap, or even go wheeling with you guys some time soon.

Anyway, I've had my '91 for a couple years now and I love it. Will at Sierra Expeditions has been super helpful during my introduction to all things LC and wheeling. I really like the shop and the attitude is great even when I bombard them with ridiculous questions.

Cheers,

James

PS, the photo is from my second attempt at doing the Devils stare case (at least that what I call it) in Sedona. It was dry the first time i did it months ago, but it was soaking wet this past Saturday due to the 3 day storm last week. A bit slippery but such a fun time.
