Check out our run of the month for September:Hello everyone! I'm a member of Rising Sun 4x4 Club of Colorado and planning to be in the Phoenix area September 23-28.
Won't be there in time for your next meeting, but would love to get in some desert wheeling if anyone's looking to get out either early in the week or on Saturday the 28th. Probably looking at a moderate trail as I will have the wife's 40th Ann 80 on this trip. Thanks in advance!
Seems there are two active crowds, CSC and AZLCA. Still digging for meeting info for both. I'm a west sider, looks like one of the meetings is always east side (CSC in Tempe, Nov 15). And I'm still looking for a formal AZLCA meet: do I need to join to attend?

Hey folks,
More or less new to the sport. Seeking opportunities to learn the easier way, I'm old enough to know hard knocks are for the younger crowd.

I own a 2012 FJC. Not 100% happy with the front end flutter that's plagued it since I drove it off the lot, but it does okay off-road. And unlike my other 4x4's I've owned, I feel like its okay to take it off the beaten paths. Still noodling over any mods - rock rails and sliders are right up there. And it seems any lift is never enough - there's always a rock just an inch bigger than your shocks - and places where you can tip over just got more risky. Contemplating a winch. In the northwest we had trees to strap to for help; down here in the desert, well, those are pretty rare, so a winch doesn't seem as useful; and I haven't seen a good solution for a winch mount except full bumper replacement or kits scabbed on by welding (prefer something removable in case I sell).
Did the Colorado Overlook Trail a in September, made it to the last dip before the cupcake rock. Having no rails opted to walk - looked like I'd take door damage if I missed a line and slid off the intended rocks. At least the paint on the rocks hinted it could happen. Fun trail though, used the skid plates at one spot (I was taking the harder of the paths for the experience). Left front dipped off a step so I backed off to take a slightly smaller step. Actually a pretty fun trail. Also, a puddle on the way out was pretty exhilarating. It was a puddle right? Well, based on dry puddles down the trail, it was at least 24" deep, muddy, and entirely two ruts. The wave of mud that ensued is still on my truck. I was pretty happy I had thrown it into 4x4 before I went into the puddle. It seemed worse leaving, and I felt pretty bad for the nice clean Buick Enclave that was about to find out how deep the puddle was (I tried to warn him, but he was a bit smug).
Anyhows, see you at a meeting somewhere.
