I will start this out by me saying this is my way and not the only way. There are numerous ways of doing this but this is the way i like doing it. That is now out of the way.

Figured i would do a write up here as i do my own power steering swap finally on my gray FJ40. I have had this thing since the late 80's but am finally ready to modify it some for it to be easier on me on the trails and to be able to enjoy it driving down the road without the slop that comes with stock set ups.

Once i am done then i will combine all the part numbers and places where i got them from to help you. The way i do it is not cheap but steering should not be cheap in my mind. The most expensive part is the gear box itself. If you have that then it will cost about 500 less. I have a used one from my old 60 i will be using. I also have an older F engine so i had to find new pieces for the front of the crank also. That took the longest to find. That being said i will be using a smaller width belt as this set up uses a smaller belt for the steering part.

I will try to cover all sorts of different varieties of stuff i have found to work over the last 5 i have done in the last couple years.

First thing is to rip everything old out. I busted the bottom of my radiator as i was trying to get it to drain. Good thing is that Toyota still has them in stock for my cruiser. Mine was original though so i can not complain.

Let me state again this is the stuff i use. It is NOT the know all be all parts list.

Gear Box : I get mine from Parts Geek. Part Number 98152-M W0133-1960761

Power Steering pump : I get mine from JT Outfitters PSPWP or wherever you want.

Power steering pump pulley for a 2F motor : 1984 Volvo 240 from a junkyard.

Saginaw pump mount to block : JT Outfitters or wherever you want.

Drag link : Budbuilt 33 1/4 inches long , 17 mm thread cut into one end and 23 mm thread cut into other end. They know what these are for from doing them for iron Pig.

FJ80 tie rod end : Trail Gear part number 130586-1-kit

Steering shaft : Summit Racing BRG-450024

Steering shaft joints : Flaming river FR 1783DD, FR 1717DD need both ends.

Pitman Arm : Marlin crawler MCST-321

Steering column bearing : Cruiser Outfitters PSCB-2 ( year dependent )

Pressure line from pump to box : Jt Outfitters YSCLME

Return hose fitting on box back to pump : Toyota 44416-35020

This should cover most everything. AGAIN it is year specific. Different years engines will need different stuff like the 1F i just did this stuff on mine. Which will need different parts. By all means get your parts where you want to. This is just a guide of where you can get them.

So. Today was spent doing things while I was in there and then fabricating metal for the box to mount to. I sleeve it very well so it takes some time to do it.

Subscribing, as well.

Sub'd. Darin, what do you plan to use for the shock tower? Um... Wait! You run shockless, right? Never mind.

Actually I modify the shock tower and bolt it back on. But I also have a set of Ford shock towers here also.

I did not mention there but you do need some metal also for the fabrication of where the box mounts. There again are numerous ways of doing that also.
