Yeah , I remember them. I don't think they ever came here. But the new model with 1.5lt petrol engine is getting 8.2l/100klms is not too bad for our fuel prices. They would be good for towing behind RVs etc.

Flying in 40 shock absorbers and throwing them out the door on a parachute along the Canning Stock Route must have cost them a bit of money and lost a lot of cred. lol

In America, Toyota has done away with solid axles, Suzuki jimny doesn’t exist, so the only solid axle body on frame 4x4 in America is the wrangler/gladiator

I like their marketing so far though. Instead of being secretive, they seem to be transparent and embracing people like us who like to closely watch it, and observe it, and nit pick. I kinda wish they did more remote testing though like driving a test mule to cape York, or across Australia, or through Africa or Moab through somewhere more well known and recognized as challenging by the 4x4 community. “Tested in Austria” sounds like I’m buying an X5 BMW, not an extremely rugged 4x4 that’s supposed to replace a Toyota
If their goal is to attract the “Defender crowd” they will need to incorporate several unique features found on the original Defenders.
1) It will need a grossly underpowered engine.
2) It will need a heater system that struggles to keep the occupants warm.
3) It will need an a/c system that struggles to cool the occupants.
4) It will need to leak (both bodily fluids and water into the cab when it rains).
5) It will need a poor seating positions and windows that are positioned to low.
6) It will need doors that have to be “slammed” several times to remain closed.
If they can accomplish these goals it will sell like hot cakes.

Making fun of LR quality control is always fun...but after awhile its like kicking a small dog in a corner. Sure it's fun at first...
Ineos has done what they can (short of successful execution). They decided to source proven reliable drivetrain parts (zero being LR). They bought a Mercedes plant, I think with the workers, to get the established manufacturing quality control processes. If I saw it right, they are currently building the "Smart" car IOT get their feet wet in the automotive manufacturing command and control. Short of just contracting out the entire thing to the Toyota Tahara plant, those all seem well planned steps. (And if we're honest, Toyota would cancel the contract once they ran it by a "focus group" that couldn't spell four wheel drive.)
It's easy to be open with a new model as you aren't poaching sales from last year's production still sitting on dealer lots.
I thought they were testing world wide, but I know everything got delayed with Covid. No idea now...
No clue on dealerships/parts/maintenance. BMW dealers? Not convinced the NA market will see them. Thought I saw a comment a long time ago about the diesel B57 originally being NA approved. The VW "little faux pas" putting an end to those plans. I'm sure it's harder now. Pipe dream....

Many off-road vehicles have on-board air. Perhaps they'll have an on-board magic smoke generator to keep the wires full...

A heritage edition Land Cruiser costs about $90,000.
A jeep wrangler with a hemi engine will run you about $80,000.
