Oh, for sure, no way would anyone admit to fault! But, having the correct info right in the manual probably does mean that Toyota would never consider paying for repairs out of warranty and/or doing a recall.

My door is fine. I put the label on the access hatch. Good idea.

I do think there is more to the fogging story than the door however. The volume of the cabin is very modest compared to the capacity of the hvac system. And unless you did a deep river crossing recently the humidity inside is not so different than outside. Even with the system stuck in recirculate it should dry and warm the air pronto. I think there is another aspect to the airflow. I do think air flow across the condenser is restricted in re-circulation mode compared to fresh mode. I notice that even in Auto mode the climate control will select fresh or recirculate according to some logic table. Door position may affect what value pops out of the table.

My AC is on year round most days which is better for the condenser. Never any issue with fogging window when the AC is on during the winter.

I checked my 2016 this afternoon and it came with a label from the factory.

Gulf States Toyota (GST) vs Toyota Motor Sales USA ?

GST is the franchised distributor of Toyota vehicles to dealers in the five states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

Was the label applied at the factory on 'GST' vehicles ?

Was the label applied at the 'port' on 'GST' vehicles?

Note the (3) label positioning marks on the door!

Mine did go through GST. My guess is that the label was done at the factory because of the multiple languages. If done at GST, I would think it would be English only.

My 2017 has the same label as steve578's. I also added warning labels on both sides of that one...

I'm still going to keep the glove box locked just in case!

Interesting...my 2015 does NOT have the label.

Wonder if the label can be ordered? Anyone have a part number?

I have mine back from the dealer, "blend door separated from the actuator arm". Their senior tech said this has been seen on other Toyota models with a similar design.

If we can't order the label, would someone with the label take a pic straight on without flash and post it? It could be saved, cropped, printed, and attached under packing tape (very shade tree I know). That said, I'm locking the glove box from now on.

Why not just write it on there yourself with a silver Sharpie? There is no reason to have a factory sticker there. The access plate comes out in seconds with no tools.

Or you can just type and print the words yourself, there is no need for an image.

If it were a sticker that was visible on a visor or elsewhere, sure, factory stickers are very desirable because they look, well “factory”.

The label indicates to me that Toyota woke up to the fact that the damper doors were being damaged.

Dealer A told me, “ No problem, it will take 1.5 hours to swap the blower housing unit. Weve done it before.”

Dealer B told me, “Oh heck, the whole dash needs to come apart, 7 hours.”

I think there is some basic confusion and probably errors in the flat rate manual. The Tundra housing has no recirc door at the filter, but the big plastic housing does indeed extend way down, deep into the center console.

The 200 housing has a flange where the Tundra one continues toward the center. I can NOT believe that the Men in the White Coats who designed the 200 would not take into consideration ease of access for changing the housing. Can you imagine a Third World mechanic with poor English and no shoes trying to PULL OUT the AC and the dash?

I talked to the dealer that sold me the truck in July. I think they might work with me on loweringthe cost, but OTH they are the ones who quoted me 7 hrs..... and both want full MSRP for the unit.

It would be very helpful if some of you could ask your dealer for a labor quote for changing this assembly. Somewhere lies the truth.

I am not sure how much good it would do talking to the Mother Ship. Do you think I could get any solid answers from Toyota USA?

Are we sure that the AC has to be discharged?

I know the workshop manual calls for the dash removal (I believe A/C too but I can double check when I get home).

After pulling it apart, I couldn't see a way to remove the assembly without pulling the dash. There's at least one bracket welded to the dash brace that's not possible to remove without the unit going forward, which it can't, or the brace coming off via the dash. Maybe there's a secret way to do it though. I doubt a Toyota tech, unfamiliar with 200s (as most aren't) being knowledgeable enough to know exactly how long it would take. Maybe though.
