Great, looks like good deals from Partsouq are out of the question now. after paying their already high shipping fees that’s a risk I am not willing to take.

Your friendly US based stearlership or parts supplier will be paying tariffs too.
Kurt's ( @cruiseroutfit ) comments in the other linked thread about using trusted brokerage for imports is a good one. If guys like Dave Stedman or cruiser outfitters etc have reliable/prefictable brokerage sorted out, that makes them even more valuable.
If you have a reliable estimate of tarrifs yo front, at least inforned decisions can be made.

I've used Dave for a couple of orders previously and whike not as conveniant or as self service/automated as Partsouq, he's extremely helpful, honest and transparent in a way you'll never get from other suppliers. I'll definitely have him top of my list for parts

I know some guys prefer that "personal touch," old school way of doing business. For my part, it just feels like extra steps - I want to put my parts in a cart at my leisure, then hit order, pay and be done until they appear on my doorstep. Obviously, things have changed and that's no longer the reality for purely political reasons, but you can't expect everyone to be thrilled about that.

The online "stores" have no idea what's in your truck. If you do, you're miles ahead of most people (and I know you're in that camp), but you're still empty handed when it comes to superseded parts that aren't in the US inventory anymore, parts that cross from other models, etc. Would you have known that the rear body mount cushions for the gasoline spec 80 series, long marked as "discontinued" in even the updated Toyota EPC, were in fact readily available from the diesel model catalog? Or that the '94 IACV could be replaced with a '95-'97 IACV? Or that the 70 series sunroof galss assemblies fit in the 80s? Or that the 100 series engine drain plugs, or for that matter the hood–mounted washer sprayers, were better matches than the OEM parts for the 80s? Or that Toyota US is sneakily substituting domestic parts for the OEM parts, for domestic orders?

You're not going to get any of that from PartSouq, Amayama, Impex (take your pick) – as a matter of fact, they'll all tell you parts aren't available when they simply haven't bought them in a period of time that exceeds the database search parameters.

There are a whole host of reasons to deal with a live person.

yeah I agree. Remember the bs when IMPEX just out of the blue started cancelling 105-series steering boxes? For no reason at all. I even emailed them and asked what was going on, got a vague response saying they cannot order the part, but we know it's still in production. Could be they didn't wanna mess with lifting and packaging heavy parts or something else, but not a great way to do business IMO.

Your math seems way off though. Did you read this thread and the link on page 2? Some guy ordered $1,900 worth of stuff from Japan and got hit with a $1,550 tariff bill. Yeah ordering from those 3 sites was way cheaper on "most" parts, some parts were the same price or more than US dealers. Now ordering from IMPEX, Amayama, or Partsouq is a real gamble. Not even worth it IMO. At least getting stuff local you know what you're in for with the cost. Not gonna get hit with a bill that requires you to take out a small mortgage to receive your parts from UPS.

Speaking from my recent experience. The tariff added $21 and the total bill was 1/2 of the US price. In fact, the entire bill was less than just the parking brake cable at the US price.

I get the argument, and you're not wrong. I worked in a musical instrument store for a few years, but we couldn't compete with the big discounts that Guitar Center could give, despite their employees knowing very little about their product. You'd invest a bunch of time and effort, helping someone get exactly what they needed, and the next time you saw them they'd already have it because it was "on sale" at one of the mega-retailers.

If I could get functional help from my local dealership, I'd probably feel more like working with them. As it is, I waited all day today and didn't get a call back about a pair of rear end pinion bearings. I didn't know about the difference between the OEM and the non-OEM (but OEM supplier) bearings because of a good parts clerk, I knew about it because of Mud and Zuk ( @gearinstalls.com ). That's just the reality of retail in the 21st century: do your own research and buyer beware. It's just fortunate people like Ken are willing to share their insight on things they know well, since we all don't live near enough to have him do our gears.

I've heard enough good things about Dave, I'll probably try him next, but if I'm going to jump through extra hoops, local gets the first shot at it.

He's more of an agent than a hoop thrower. He's very helpful and his prices are hard to beat.
