inside behind the brakes our LC have big balls up front

what are they called???? and what fluid Im I suppose to lubricate them with ???

yes I feel extra stupid for asking
and yes I did try to search but not knowing what they are called made it imposible.:)

the driver side "ball" is dry but its not making any noice or making vibrations do I just lubricate it or does it need to be replaced?

are they the upper suspencion arms????

Must be refering to The CV's or Birfields or Birf's for short. Inside the knuckle housing(swiveling area on front axle).
Look for axle rebuilds or replacing the birf's. I use Vavoline Pallidium grease.

Yes, birfields. They are greased from the inside, so the dry one is your good one. The wet one might need seal replacements. How about pictures?

Post a pic of your balls. Couldn't resist. :D

If it's dry then you're probably due for a front end service. There is a square fill plug on top of the knuckle to add grease for the short term.

Several good write ups with pics to help you with the front end.

:confused::lol:

Difference in terminology? To me "dry" implies no grease at all as even freshly rebuilt knuckles have some grease.

If looked under my truck and one end of the front axle was clean and the other end covered in grease and dirt, I'd post "why is there $hit on one of my balls?".

Now where's that pic STW349?

You could put a rebuild kit though your front swivel hubs, time consuming very messy job.
The ball that looks dry is probably the good one, the other is leaking. If the leaking one doesn't have too much diff oil running out it I'd just ignore it as it's the type of job you don't want to do unless you have to.

Your balls are called front axle knuckles.

If your rig has not been driven much lately or they have been dry for a while they will look dry or rusty from sitting and not driven.

In your case I would check the amount of Moly grease in your birf first.

part number #43211D is the outside access hole to check grease amount. Remove the square plug and use a Zip Tie as a dipstick to check how much grease is inside. It should be about 2/3 to 3/4 full max as a general rule of thumb. Try adding some if needed first then drive it a few days to see how they look again in a day or two.

This will show how to rebuild/service the front axle if they should they need that.
