thanks for the link, i have a set of ifs hubs so i just might look into doing this!

Couple of pics from my playing around yesterday.....

Haven't put all the bolts in yet because my RTV wasn't nearby and my hub are being turned down as we speak... i just wanted to do a dry fit and see how tings worked out. here are a couple pics of a few bolts in to hold everything.

awe, man...

I just found out the 79-80 brake rotors are different from the 81-85's...

Could it be? Napa says the 79-80 rotors are 1.65" And the 85/ Fj60's are 1.89" A difference of .24" A 1/4 of an inch....

Does anybody have, or know if these will work? Assuming the calipers are the same, and bolted in the same place, it looks to me like the hubs a re 1/4" back...

Also, Marlin mentions something about this in his vented rotors/ IFS calipers upgrade product description...

"This kit also fits 1979-80 axles that have been converted to 1981-85 spindles."

???

EDIT: Or, oh kay-rap... does that mean the spindles and bearings are different on 79-80's?

EDIT: EDIT: According a Pirate faq, the bearings for 79-85's are the same... So no..

when you get the hub back post up a pic so i can see what was machined, also with how much.

Turned down to fit the rotors and got some new Bling.
Might give them a little bit of wire wheel loving later on too.

Lugs were $1.30 a-piece and turning was free. The machinist at work did it for me.

If he need computer work done i hok him up... if i need uber-cool stuff with metal done... he's the man.

I don't remember the measurement. I brought him the rotor and hub and let him do his thing.

Part number in the studs please. Are they SAE or metric?

My buddy is manager at o'reilly. I just went in and told him i needed studs for the front of a 92 toyota truck (donor vehicle) and compared the old with the new once he pulled them out. He was a couple shy of what i needed so i'll be passing by later on to pick up the rest. I'll see about getting a # on them.

The guy that did mine said 6 & 5/8ths... And that was $25...

But I actually ran home (1/2 mile?) and got the Taco rotor while it was still on the lathe...

I imagine $50-$60 to do both, but TBT if you already know how much, it should be faster...

When I get the courage, and an exact measurement, I'll go back and get the WMS surface knocked down...

FWIW,

Ive done most of this research. Just found this post by accident. Anyways, im gonna make a spacer like sky's to make a solid axle track the same width as an ifs rear. I know the one fella didnt want the width.

I dont like moving the caliper to the front of the knuckle. Just looks like bad leverage, etc. I know it will work but i dont like it. With that said, im gonna make a spacer like sky sells. im sure it will be cheaper than skys. If anybody here is interested let me know. Im sure it will be cheaper and easier to make more than one set.

If you get the kit from FROR you don't move the caliper to the front. You move the threaded holes the OLD caliper bolted to around to the front. Then you install the Bracket from Front Range so you can mount the Tacoma caliper on the back.

Yeah, but then there's 3 things you have to buy just to mod the brakes...

The kit, the Tacoma calipers and possibly new wheels... If they don't clear the caliper..

I didn't know until I was told, that if I use an IFS wheel, my wheel track would not be widened...

But that left the caliper out-side the bosses...

I just wish Marlin, FROR or somebody would sell already machined hubs, for the machine/ fab-inept:D

I'd pay $60 + shipping, with core?

@15 minutes PER SET on a machine, for $60 is BANK!

The difference between the early rotors and the later rotors is how they attatch to the hubs. One bolts to the hub, and the other uses 2 bolts and the studs through the brake rotor..

Yeah, but then there's 3 things you have to buy just to mod the brakes...

These are thing You have to buy.

The reasons this specific mod appealed to me was:

1. No spacers needed
2. For the prices i would have paid for spacers i got used IFS hubs and lockers
3. My SAS is happening on a Tacoma, Everything else i need is already under my truck. (Rotors, calipers, hoses, and i can maintain use of my current 16" steelie's)

So 100 Bucks for the FROR kit and i get upgraded brakes from what i would have had the the original SA stuff, Easier access to birfs when i need to service or change, wider stance without the need for spacers, And i can buy some moly gears for the other locking hubs i have and now i have a spare set to put in the tool box.

I am not saying it's the best option for everyone... but for someone SASing a Taco with a Yota axle, it's the best bang for your buck..... IMO. :)

amen to that...
