I'd like my 80'd driver seat to go 1" higher ..

Yeah .. I can hear it now; "a booster seat". So heres a pre-emptive :flipoff2:

With the laptop, I've replaced my convex mirrors with 4" diameter ones. It's still ever so slightly low. Ideally to have perfect visibility I'd like to be able to raise my seat another inch.

Can someone design this mod? Rick....seems like something you might be in tune with, by virtue of the fact that you came up with the 'leg-room mod'.

Anyone?

Would it be as easy as a plate interface between the foor and the seat?

Thanx,

TY

Rick's seat mod raises the front edge of the seats about 3/4"....it would be a no-brainer to add 3/4" steel spacers and longer bolts to the rear bracket and raise that too.

I'm surprised your power seat settings can't raise the front/rear up enuf to work...

IIRC Rick's mod raises the front of the seat 3/4" already. Probably wouldn't be too much more to add a spacer under the rear.

BTW, how short are you? I guess being 6'3" does have its advantages every once in a while... :flipoff2:

Ary

Edit: Damn it woody, you're too fast for me! BTW, did you get my paypal last week for my stickers?

More foam under the center of the seat cushion to build it up?

Phonebook?

I'd have to check it out but my mod with a 3/4" shim under the rear foot my work out very well. You need to be sure that the bolts used for fastening the chair to the floor are not "automotive sized" which can't be easely sourced if at all.

I'm 5'10 .... . I think always having driven trucks at leisure and for a living leaves me always desiring that higher seating. Since day one I've had the seat maxed out, but now to look over the darn laptop it would be a tad safer to go up an additional inch. It will really come into it's own when I have someone shotgun, and need to centre the laptop more...thereby raising it up some. The 1" mod will again give me the needed clearance.

I'll check out Ricks mod thread, then take a close look at my 80, and then probably PM him for feedback. I don't know if taking the seat cover off to add foam would be worth it. I like the shape of the seat portion now... plus the plates might be easier to tweak if need be.

Thanks for checking it out Rick. It sounds like it might be the ticket...lemme know.

I'm really 6'4, but I'm fighting a gravity enhancement threat at the moment :D

With a 36" inseam........built like a frog!

I've heard the girls mention 'toad' .. maybe they meant to say frog...or even Prince. :crybaby:

Ty, checked it out and the bolts are 10x1.25, so they are easily gotten at a hardware store. The 50mm length should be about right. The 70mm length had a shoulder on it that was longer than the amout of shim you want so they probably wouldn't work. Short of what I have done, I don't see an easier way of raising the front.

My suggestion would be to install my mod and then see what happens. It doesn't sound like what I've done will do much for the seating position but it will be quite noticeable if you move the seat back further than it will go now.

Ok, I'm confused now Rick. Will your mod work if I don't want my seat back in Amazon territory? :D .

What do you mean above? By 'seating position' do you mean the height? Are you saying it will not raise the 'height' of the seat UNTIL I power it back beyond stock? Because I will never power it back that far .... :frown:

TY - dumb as a rock

Since you are going longer on the bolts try buying grade 8--a normal bolt is grade 2 and would probably break in a severe accident--All the Toyota bolts I have pulled out are over grade 8 in strength.

My mod does 2 things,

1. it raises the front of the chair 3/4"

2. it shifts the chair back 1.78", So after the mod the front of the chair will be 3/4" higher and if moved all the way forward would be 1.78" further away form the dash board.

Not knowing how tall you actually are since it's a toss up at this point, 5' 10 or 6' 4", it's a little hard to know whether or not you would adjust the chair into the area which was not available until after the mod. If you were to use this new space than your view of the laptop might chainge and the need for raising the rear of the seat might not be needed.

Now if you ended up at the same point in relationship to the dash board as before then you will only have accomplished half the job with my mod and would need to raise the rear.

Just so you won't get all weird with the 1.78" back thing, my wife drives the truck with the mod in place and she is only 5' 2", and the seat is not all the way forward either.

One other bonus is that it offers more ahhhhhhhh head room, if you know what I mean.

Creates free-er blowby from the nut warmer as well, I imagine. :D

So what do you figure for rear shims? Just some metal plating adding up to 3/4". Would I keep the 1:1 ratio? Seems sensible ...

Oh, and I'm 5'10" ... forget the gravity well. :flipoff2:

You ought to put the rear shims in with a new kit. "Booster seat kit".

Rick,
I did a search and found the thread w/ your mod. The problem is that the pics won't come up. Is there any way you can repost them?

Thanks

Tyler

Have you considered a periscope? You would not need a big one. It could mount in the roof.

Another one that might works is to eat a cheeseburger. Repeat five times daily for two weeks. I think this will eventually work.
