Can anyone help me ID the odd egg shaped part that was screwed (sheet metal screws🤮) to my fire wall near the brake booster on my ‘94 Fzj80.

The part has a red and black wire that runs to the back of the fuse box (or at least to that area). There also appears to be a black and red wire that drops down from the back of the fuse box area and has a momentary switch button that the wires are disconnected to at the moment.

Just wondering if anyone has seen something like this before. I’m having some strange electrical issues, so trying to carefully remove any extra wiring the PO(s) have added over the years. Thanks for any input!

Could be the siren for an alarm. Or just an external PA speaker for a CB or other radio.

Gotta be cautious unwiring previously alarmed trucks

Aftermarket alarm/entry speaker for the chirping. Mine had a near identical one that was only wired to chirp when the locks cycled, but also just had extra wires running everywhere that did nothing.

There's a black box that says TechWeb with a part number in your last photo. Looks like an aftermarket logic box. Does the speaker run to that box?

It’s hard to say, really hard to see up in there. I think I need to take off the lower plastic trim to see what wires go to where, but there does seem to be black and red wires coming off that Techweb box.

Ugh…there does seem to be all kinds of definitely aftermarket wires spliced in to the OEM harness under the DS dash area. The doors automatically lock when the key starts the engine, I don’t remember that being the case on my old 80.

Like others have said - Aftermarket alarm or entry system.

If removing I would ensure you reinsulate (at least tape) any wire that may have been tapped into (don't currently see any in the pictures). All those white butt connectors are not original and should be removed and the wires soldered back together with a shrink tube covering. Some look to be for an aftermarket stereo so the job may not be as daunting as it initially looks.

Another vote for the speaker for an aftermarket alarm. The momentary switch could be a valet mode switch or a secret switch that was once required to start the car. I recall some old aftermarket alarms had hidden tricks like certain switches had to be engaged in a particular order or number of times before the alarm allowed the vehicle to start.

My '94 definitely doesn't auto lock when the key starts the engine.

Thanks, hopefully I can get rid of the speaker and security system to stop the doors from auto locking. I also think there is a strange kill switch style no start issue happening every so often that is tied to this old security system. Which involves me disconnecting the battery terminals and waiting 10 mins before being able to reconnect battery and start the engine. Be nice to have that gone as well!
