Well, instead of hooking up with you guys I took my folks out to the mud caves, then Diablo drop off then sand stone canyon then the wind caves and then home. whew. I thought about trying to hunt you all down since we weren't that far away but my folks had had enough wheeling and sun for the day. Sunday afternoon, we hit the Glamis sand dunes. To make a long story short, I tried to impress them by powering up a sand dune. We made it up and as soon as it leveled off, we went air born over an unseen four foot drop off at speed. The army surplus drawer/cabinet had come un-strapped and blew out the rear window when we 'touched down'.

hey mike

we have a nice liftgate with rear glass left over from the race truck that my buddy might be selling

email: brettgarland@yahoo.com and tell him i sent ya, not sure if he still has it, but its worth a shot

sorry to hear that

OUCH! I bet that scared the hell out of the family......did you dend them the leather cleaning bill for the seat cleaning? :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll give him a try. I've got one lined up in phoenix but I have to pick it up. If your buddy's price is right I would rather pick it up closer to home. Are you talking about the infamous race truck from the baja mishap?!

It shook us up pretty good. The funny thing is, I told them I wouldn't bounce them around too much. They've seen the hard core wheeling vids on youtube and thought thats what it was all about. I was the master of finesse going down diablo and even took my time running the washes in that area. I aired down where I didn't need to just to soften the wash board shakes and it was all going great until we went out to glamis.

It came up so fast I didn't even realize what happened until I stopped and got out to look. You could clearly see where the tires left the sand for a few feet. We took it in stride and didn't let it ruin the experience of the dunes. My folks are from NY and have never been out to the desert south west so it was an experience to say the least. I think the best part was their concern over the broken glass shards in the sand. They didn't want to leave any glass in the desert.

Yow! Glad nobody got hurt. We all had alot of fun Saturday and I don't think we did anything that would have made your parents nervous.

I always overstrap everything in the back when I go wheelin'. It makes me crazy to hear things shifting around and I'd hate to squish the hounds.

Have you checked on having a glass shop just replace the glass? It usually isn't too pricey from what I've experienced.

That blow out reminds me of a Death Valley trip with the Norcal guys. One guy towing an expedition type trailer blew out his rear window the first day with a rock that the trailer kicked up.

Glad nobody was hurt!

I'll be taking a road trip to phoenix this weekend to pick a replacement from Crash for $40. He is parting out a '94 and there might be a few other things I can scrounge off it to make the trip worth it. I have friends along the way so for me, it's not as bad a drive.

quick question, the hatch glass is the same size and shape in all 80's right...??

Question best asked to Cdan.

If he's got a couple of used front mud flaps in reasonable shape, I'll give him $20 for the pair to help make the trip more worthwhile.

I would be more than willing to be a part of MUDship and pick up any parts for you guys.. on one condition: you make all deals and or payments with Crash before hand. If you want big/heavy items I have a utility trailer but I need to know. come to think of it, the fender will probably need the trailer. no problem. PM me with details of what I can expect to be hauling.

Sent Crash a pm. I'll let you know.

You don't have to do all that for me. I just figured you were going to take a pickup truck out there and could throw the fender in with your liftgate. If it's going to be a hassle, don't worry about it. I'm heading out there in may anyway and could get it then.

Please don't haul out the trailer for my sake.

Anyway, let me know what you decide. I sent a PM to crash, but am still waiting on a reply.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

Just got word from crash that it's ok to pick up that fender.

Let me know if you have room to throw it in with your stuff, and I'll send him payment. If not, I'll just pick it up in May.

Please dont make any special provision just for me though.

Thanks!

No mudflaps from Crash.

Glass is, yes, but the earlier models have 2 holes for the "Sombrero" emblem on the lower gate, and the later ones have 2 holes on the upper gate, dont know if that matters or not

Well, I got to phoenix and meet crash.. totally cool guy. Did you know he's putting a 40 tub on an 80 frame w/ lockers?!! I pulled in his drive way and saw the preliminary setup in his garage. I was like.. HEY! What is THAT!! I almost didn't recognize the frame from the top view because I'm always on my back looking up. lol.

Anyways, I've got the fender for you sdnative. pm me and we can work out the details.

I ended up getting the whole upper hatch from crash. I just finished swapping the glass. His was green with a minor dent, mine blue. I'm so relieved to have it done!
