A minor update on my tear down.

I picked up the 40 from Brians Storage Yard in Woodstock and trekked her home behind the 62. I got it to the garage and tore apart the top and sides so it could fit in the garage. For my first time doing that it took close to an hour unbolting everything and taking everything off.

I spent the last couple of evenings tearing apart the front end to straighten out the SOA setup. It was ghetto fabbed a bit but no more worries. No more "extreme" Rauncho setup for me. Anyone want to buy this setup before it hits the cans?

The axle will be making it's way to Tom's for a C-n-T and going back under the 40 before the end of the month. I'll be picking up the high-steer from Tony and hopefully getting a set of Bilstein 5125 shocks from Carl.

I've so far made 1 repair! I don't want to hear any more crying from the bezel nazi's!

I'll give you $20 for everything in the pic, except the rubber gloves and cigerette pack, if it's worth your time to bring it to the tech meeting.

You're kidding right Bill? Tell you what I'll toss in a half pack of 'Boro's for free if you want. I'll be at Tech with Brian. I'll have the "extreme" Rauncho setup for you if you're serious.

Honestly, I could use the shocks for setting up my new shock mounts (single shock) and I'm making a home brewed crossover steering setup.

(side note)I can make some crap out of some crap.:D

Bill, Dont worry about Phil. He just has no imagination. Just take HIS "garbage" put it on your truck and then tow his broke ass off the trail with his own "garbage"....Ill take a picture :flipoff2:

I tackled the back axle the last couple of days and am quite happy with the results. I got the lunchbox locker installed, the rear disc conversion installed, and most importantly the rear spring properly on top of the axle tube. Needless to say the "extreme" spring over is now gone. The only thing left to do is new rear shocks and brake lines to the tee on the top of the axle.

I'm waiting for Tom to finish my front axle C-n-T then I can tackle the front. I'm also trying to hunt down a couple of parts so when the axle comes I can take care of it all at once. I'm looking for two top spring plates for the front since I used the ones I had to finish off the rears. I'm also looking for a decent 1" bore Master Brake cylinder from either a 4 Runner or mini truck to finish up my disc brake conversion. Anybody have these lying about? I'd rather not order new ones so I'll gladly pay you for your junk.

I'll tackle the steering and Saginaw fix after I get the axle installed. I just need to pick up some 1/4" steel plate to make a new mount for the gear box.

So far I have the suspension fixed and waiting for new shocks. The brakes are half converted to discs and needing a new master cylinder. The steering parts are all there just waiting for a mount. That leaves the rats nest of wiring to be sorted.

Not too bad so far. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Nice job phil...looks slot better than when it was sitting at the house with my dog pissing on the tires!

I finally got my camera back and snapped a couple of shots of my progress.

It took awhile but I got the Saginaw mounted on the frame properly. I fabbed a filler plate for the inside of the frame and then welded the mount to it. On the outside of the frame I added a stiffening plate to help carry the load of the gear box.

I had a little time this past weekend and went to the bone yard. I scored a brake master cylinder from a 91' 4Runner. No luck on the calipers though but I have a set coming from Tom.

I started cleaning up the wiring the last couple of days and made some great progress. I relocated the fuse box and a couple of the runs to the engine bay. 'll snap a couple pics later of that.

On this weeks episode..... I finally got my axle back from Tom at T-N-T 4x4. It was worth the wait since I was able to tackle more of the wiring. I scored a nice set of 6 gauges from a fellow Mudder and fabbed up my dash plate for them. Yeah, it's a bit pimp bling but it's my pimp bling!

Tom did a great job on the axle and fabbed up a sweet chunk side spring perch for it. The dude can weld! I also scored a set of calipers that should fit! It looks like I'll be in the garage a bit this week!

"I KNOW NOOTHINNNNG"!!!!

Dam, I can actually see some detail on the work computer. Looking good.

Thanks Bill! I have those other shocks tagged, bagged, and ready for you.

Thanks, hopefully we can make the March run at the Badlands. Gotta sell some more old race stuff first. They're having a local swap meet March 1st.

I finished all of the wiring Sunday morning and everything works! Not only does it work, it's put together correctly (crimped, soldered, and heat shrink coated) it looks a thousand times better than when I got it!

A huge tip of my Hat to Todd for a set of spring plates! I got the axle mounted and the chunk installed as a result of his generosity! I was hoping to get the axles installed tonight, but I chose to be lazy and take a nap instead.

My build is cruising along nicely and I should be ready for the Badlands run without any expected problems! My original goal was to be rolling and ready by St. Pats Day. It looks like a real possibility right now!
