I need to borrow a trailer....

It's been awhile since I updated so here's where I currently stand. The 40 has taken a back seat to a few things but I'm in the home stretch. It kinda sucks when I'm the only one working in the house. I'm back pulling side jobs....again!

The 40 runs pretty good but I was having a problem getting it to shut off with the key. I was still getting power to the coil with the key off. A bit of investigation revealed I had the coil power lead attached to the wrong wire on the ignition switch. No biggee there. The next problem I had was the old alternator wasn't charging the battery at all. I swapped out the old 12SI for a rebuilt 94 amp unit. While I was at it I fixed the mount and now it's working great and it looks good! I'm finally done in the engine bay!
I did a quick and dirty alignment then got the two new Goodyear's mounted. They look a little smallish for the SOA but I'm saving up for a larger set in the future. I have the shock mount tabs done but still no shocks yet because I'm unsure on measuring them. I max out my hi-lift raising the frame sufficiently to get the tires to max articulation. I think I need a friend with a fork lift!
I'm now down to a couple parts to finish. The pitman should be here this week according to Luke at 4x4 Labs. It took him awhile to get the right arm for me but he assures me it's on the way. Once that get's on it's heading for a quick cheap exhaust. Then over for a new front drive shaft.

I almost forgot a couple of pics!

I'm sticking with the stock seats for now. Once I get the cage done I'll get a set from the bone yard along with some seat belts. I also had to fab up a seat mount since it was being held in place with a wood 2x4.

The Saginaw is done except for the pitman. I also cut the bumper down.

One last post today I promise!

I wound up fabbing my own shock tabs and would like input from some of you more knowledgeable guru's out there. I used 1/4 plate and drilled a 1/2 hole in a corner of it then welded it to the axle. I'm curious if this would work.

Looks good Phil. Lots of clean parts there, needs some dirt and mud soon!

why did you use u-bolts?

while I dont like the idea of a single shear shock mount....Ive been running them for a couple years now with no problem.

I use what I have on hand! How else would I attach the springs to the axel? I thought about doing a double tab but I don't have any shocks to check my alignment and spacing. If I do shear a tab, I can always fab up a double tabbed mount.

Well the great thing about a drilled perch is you can just use normal bolts....if you put you life in tom's welds' hands.

I'll throw my shock eye measurement to you later and let me know if they sound about right. In the meantime, I need to get the hell out of work! My Pitman just came in! Sounds like I might be able to get it over to the exhaust shop tonight under its own power!
