Yep 75' oak tree direct hit, tree trunk is running from dead center of the lift gate to the front passenger door.

Just called the insurance company, I have liability only so it is not covered, she lives there but I own the land, neither of u have put home owners insurance on it.

I saved about 6K in insurance over the years going with just liability, the cruiser is worth about that so I broke even in that regard, just took the "hit" all at once instead of over time.

Absolutely!
Similar situation happened to my dad on his property. Tree fell on his Toyota Van parked in the yard. Home owners insurance did NOT cover the damage to the vehicle however it did compensate him for the Tree and removal costs!

Regardless, sorry to see such a needless loss of life. My FZJ just leaked an extra drop or two of oil on the driveway out of respect for a fallen comrade.

I almost threw up in my mouth a bit when I saw that. Sorry, man. That's the stuff of nightmares.

That is a nice chop job who's is that is there a thread on it anywhere?

That's a 4Runner rather than an 80, so you might check other 4Runner forums. It's been coming to Cruise Moab for a number of years and seems to change every year.

RT: Sorry about your rig. I do like the idea of a convertible 80 though :)

That just sucks plain and simple.

If it was me I'd look for a body and rebuild it. Sell off your unused parts and call it good. Since you don't have insurance your title will be clean. If it doesn't come out as nice as you want sell it and look for another one.

Bummer seeing yours get the tombstone like that, bud.

You really got to do that top chop & keep it for a sun rig, as that even as a full convertible is still better than it being turned into a picked-over carcass.

Glad you all are safe! -Keep it & make the sun rig!

PLEASE don't part it out! If you want to sell it someone like me will take it and get it on the road... TOPLESS! A soft top is actually my dream ride! Let us know which way you go! Sorry about the bad luck. If a tree fell on mine, I would take that as a sign! Especially in Florida!
I'll be moving down there soon, Sarasota area, let me know if it wants a new home!

Don't want to sound like a vulture, but I'm getting ready to remove the body from my 80 to put a stretched 40 body on. The body's not perfect(rockers are dented a little bit and there's a dent in one of the rear quarter panels, but in terms of straightness I'd give it an 8.5/10. If you want to discuss getting it to swap onto your chassis I'd be open to it.

Wow, think I'd wanna cry.

Found out a couple months ago (while in the process of switching insurance carriers) that my wife had dropped my comprehensive insurance down to collision only. I calmly explained to the agent that I didn't really care what happened to my wife's soulless Yukon, but that the LX must survive for the next generation. Your thread shows me I was correct in my action.

Sorry for the loss, bro. If I were in your shoes, I'd consider parting it out to pay for another ride, while '80's are still relatively plentiful. Chopped rides only have so much functional use...

Sorry to hear that man, this happened to a friend of mine a few years back (original factory soft top FJ40).

Cutting the top might be fun, but from the pics the doors are all gaping at the bottom. I would bet there's some unseen damage to it. Rock crawler, yes, just don't plan to take it on the highway
