Ok, my battery is 4.5 years now and it does not do well when the lights are left on for a little while, the interiors lights are left on, the radio etc. I don't need a dual setup.
I have diehard Platinum batteries 32a on the boat and they are awesome. Live well , GPS, fish finders can stay on for hours. I'd love to use these but I doubt they'd fit.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Ryan, no Mods needed?
Is it an Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery?

I just placed a Diehard Platinum in mine a couple of weeks ago. After almost 6 years, it still had the original Lexus battery. Died in the same day of it starting to show signs. I have used the Diehards on every vehicle I have owned. No issues with any of them.

If you're looking for a bigger battery, I'd highly consider upgrading to a group 31. It's not too complicated to do with a little fab work, they fit no problem and Slee is even working on a kit. Here's mine I did myself:

I'm in need of a battery too...and would love to plunk a 31 in there as well.
Couple questions for yoooooo...

-What (if anything) did you have to modify besides the top battery plate?
-Where do you get that plate, etc. (who makes it?)?

Seems to me that we may as well use ALL of the huge battery space there...so I'm curious.

Thanks!

M

PS. My 2008 still has the original Panasonic battery...but it is showing signs of needing replacement after nearly EIGHT years(!!).

I have found that once you allow a battery to go dead even ONCE it's on borrowed time. Scientifically I don't know why but I've seen it happen several times. Mine was an interior light over night. Damn kids

I have been running a Optima Yellow Top 710 CCA on my 200. Been loving it.

I second that, I have not had to swap out a 200 battery yet. But I have 2 yellow tops in the boat, and that is generally the battery I choose whenever its available. Have used it in gas and Diesel pickups with really good performance. I would caution using a Red top. I had three in row in a gas pickup years ago that truck had minimal use (not a daily driver) and the Red tops just don't seem to perform near as well as the yellow for that sort of application. The Red tops are probably fine for daily drivers. I have stuck with the Yellow tops ever since.

I went to sears a few days ago to put batteries in my diesel and they informed the platinum's are no longer being offered. There done.

Once the current stock is gone in each store, there will be no more.

To be replaced with..... what? Did they say?

Most of my cars are on battery tenders. The red tops I had before all died, as you said. Thus I switched to Yellow top and everything has been good since.

Please excuse my ignorance....but why is this considered a MARINE battery, and what impact--if any-- does that have in an auto application?

Also curious... Are the secondary contacts simply for convenience for attaching other devices such as a trolling motor, lights, etc.?

Aww, don't be so hard on yourself. Generally speaking, and depending on manufacturer, a marine battery will be deep cycle and have threaded posts (for the reasons you mentioned) in addition to or in lieu of standard posts. No downside to using in an auto application, just greater flexibility and less damage to the battery by over draining (deep cycling) it.

Just called Slee. Their tray is 1-2 months out. :-(

Diehard gold AGM.

Oh, it's OK. -Ignorance can be fixed...
Stupidity, on the other hand? -No cure for that...
Hopefully I'm just temporarily ignorant. :)

PS Edit: Hooray! Ignorance already fixed! Your post...plus the info I just looked up have rescued me from my ignorant state.

The group 32 die hard platinum batteries are no where to be found here in NY. Hope Slee has some suggestions if they are putting the battery box into production. Odysseys are very expensive.
The DieHard gold and the duralast platinum got excellent reviews on consumer reports

Just posted in the other thread about the 2nd battery tray.

TJM Dual Battery Tray

We are also close to the group 31 upgrade. We are working around the Interstate battery. That changes some dimensions and we also had to develop terminal adapters. These are all designed and just have to be put into production. We also have the ARB single and double compressor mount done. We should be able to ship in the next 1 to 2 months.
