cruiser gurus tell me this is rare - although last year at Cruise Moab, another 40 ripped the whole shackle hanger off

mine held through Golden Spike, and I had it welded on the next morning - now the front passenger frame horn is boxed (with a hole for access to the nuts) - sorry, no pic of the after

Yep, I ripped my passenger side SOA spring hanger off on Golden Spike at CM too. Boxing the frame will be this weekends project. I'm aware of one other 40 that this happened to. I suspect it is not rare.

I did a shackle reversal as part of my SOA. Cracked the frame nicely and bent the lower part back with the hanger still attached.

:whoops:

the welder boxed the horn from the front to about one inch past where the frame bends upwards - and left a rectangular ~2 inch access hole

yup, he's also from New Mexico

I saw your truck but wasn't aware it was busted :frown:

Two batteries, some jumper cables, a few welding rods, and I was off the trail. A small MIG attached to a portable generator fixed it enough to get her home.

Mark told me his story before I busted mine. I think he jinked me.

ever since I saw his rip apart last year, I have been inspecting that corner.....

he was on my Golden Spike run this year and came over several times to check how it was going - I think he was secretly waiting for something to happen :hillbilly:

well, I made it out without fully busting :flipoff2: (what you cannot see on the pics is that the welds underneath the frame holding the shackle hanger were also partially cracked, and there was a longitudinal crack developing in the lower corner of the frame horn) - nothing spells adventure like wheeling on a time bomb  :steer: :hillbilly:

the big shots (Kurt and Jeremiah looked at it :flamingo:) recommended professional attention

so I went to Moab 4x4 Outpost - they took to it first thing in the morning - Dusty is the name of the guy who welded to box it

"Kevin-improved frame/shackles/shackle hanger"

Sounds like some better improvement is in store...

he improved the driver-side shackle and the rear spring hangers/frame ;p

this passenger-side shackle is from SOR (which the driver-side originally was too - until I brokeded it  and he made a stronger one :D) neither shackle is not broken - the broken pin was in the passenger-side front spring hanger
