Lets see first ever Toyota was my 91 80 series that I bought in may of last year I was 27. Don't see me ever reverting back to a lower grade vehicle, guess that means I'll drive a LC for the rest of my days.

My first rig was a '78 40, my second rig was an '84 60, my current rig is a '94 locked 80 that I bought used ~5 years ago....

36 when I purchased her new here in SoCal in August, 1994. She lead a sheltered life up until about 2 years ago then the hounds were let loose and the mods began! :D

Got my FJ40 in 96 when I was 21
Integra at 2001
BMW 330 ci at 2004 at 29
and my LX 450 locked with 62k at age 30

my dad bought his first 40, a 71, when he was a sophomore in college then bought his first 80 a 91 when i was 5yrs old. it was stolen from my moms work and then she got a ford exploder till she got fed up with it and bought the 96 when i was 10 and i loved riding around in it as a little kid and love it even more now as i learned to drive in it as well as an 02 100 series my dad had for a bit, and i continue to love it more than ever as its been mine since i got my license at 16 and im soon to turn 20 in march. it was put in my hands with 74k and ive rolled it to 136k and have loved every mile. i have grown up in landcruisers and wouldnt drive any other suv, it has put up with every bit of trouble i have thrown at it. ive driven it up the eastern seaboard every summer since i was about 13 well rode in it up the coast till i was 16. i promise myself i will never get rid of this cruiser unless there is absolutley no way around it. i love landcruisers no way around that. sorry for my landrcuiser love story but it just felt so right :flipoff2:

First of all, I came to the U.S in 1993 when I was 20. Fell in love with the FJ80 the first time I saw it...

Bought an '83 Supra 5sp for my first job in Nov., 1993 (152K miles - $1800).

Moved up to '87 Supra Turbo 5sp in Oct., 1996 (136K miles - $4200).

Then the '97 LX450 in May, 2001 (35.8K miles - $31,000)

I was raised in the back of my father's '67 FJ-40, which he bought new in '66 and still owns. I've owned a few different Toyotas but didn't get a Land Cruiser until my 94 FZJ80 fell in my lap a few months ago, shortly after my 30th birthday. It is the best all around vehicle (comfort/capability/durability) I have ever owned.

25, and recently bought a 97 LX450

TiredIron,

I don't know why, but I have been laboring under the misconception that guys like you who heavily modify their rigs don't have as much passion for the original rig as guys like me who love their stockers. I love being proven wrong, and I think it's really nice to see one of these "luv my 80" threads once in a while - thanks for starting it!

If you've modified more than one rig, and spent a fortune addressing weak spots like Jeep stock axles, you get hugely passionate about rigs that are the most solid platform and let you focus on offroad performance mods. In that regard, the 80 has no peer if you have a lot of kids.

I was 35, and it was a baby girl in the #4 position that made the decision. Wish I had saved the $20K that went into my Jeep 5 years ago.

Nay

bought my first Toyota p/u with a 22RE 5spd in 1990. Drove it off the lot and put on 195K before I sold it. It spent 4 winters in Tahoe with me wishing it was a 60/or 40 that it watched crawl out of the Rubicon on weekends. In '98 I bought the '94 FZJ80 with 71K on the clockthe day after I turned 31. I still have yet to fully mod it to my liking, but at 189K it's going strong. It's been to Yellowstone, Jackson Hole a few times, Utah, Oregon, Spokane Wa,San Diego, Vegas....etc.

Went looking for 4 runners when I was 25 for the wife and soon to be child. Happened to look at a 93 80 series and fell in love with them.

We found a single owner locked and babied local to us and jumped on it. Still have it and she runs great. Deifnitely wasn't my parents 40 series when I was 5 years old...but I completely agree on the mystique!

Was 39 when I bought the LX with 19,xxx miles. The only regret I had is why I bought this rig without the lockers. Oh well, I guess you can always retrofit. I could have waited for a low miles and spend the money on mods.

16 when I picked up my 76/77 FJ40
Had a family 85 FJ60 since 86
and my bro had his 78 FJ40 at that time as well
Moved to my still sorely missed 84 4Skinner 22re
My bro picked up his non-leather 96 FZJ and talked me into an 80 (out of the 4Skinner):frown:
Then purchased my first 80 series at 22
Then married into my UZJ100
In the interim my bro picked up his 78 FJ40 and threw in a 3fe
just a bit of time after, I couldn't resist my 84 BJ60 Canook spec.
Thereafter another UZJ100 entered the family down south...

still going...which reminds me-I saw a beat out ol 68 40 off of a backroad the other day....hmmmmmm still wanting a BJ40!

37 when I got my 80. 30 when I got my '83 FJ60. had Nissan/Datsun 4x4 trucks before that. Drove my first LC, and FJ60 in Peru when I was 19. Hooked ever since.

Bought an '81 Toy P/U @ 16 and delivered pizzas until i could sell it (with 270,000 miles) and got a '96 Tacoma @ 19 (Tacoma is bone stock and has been over Hell's Revenge and Lion's Back in Moab. I have pictures!)

Added '85 4Runner to Tacoma @ 23 as a graduation/moving to Colorado present to myself. (Gig 'em!)

Sold Tacoma to Dad and got the LX 450 @ 26. Now 28 and still have the LX and the 4Runner. Tacoma is living at an easier pace now that Dad has it (150,000 miles).

I bought a '91 brand new at 33. Picked up the current '97 in Aug '04.

I was 43 when I bought my 97 Moonglow Pearl CE with about 58K on it. I have had 4Runners and pickups, I always wanted an 80, in 2002 prices and financial means came together at the right time. It will be paid off in the next 3 months.
