I was 34 when I bought my 80 in July of 2003. It was a big change from the 2000 Nissan Altima and is a substantial upgrade from the '94 Isuzu Rodeo that was a substantial downgrade from the '90 Isuzu Trooper. The 80 is a keeper.
I was 29 when I bought my first one in 1993, it was a 1991 with a slug 3FE. I remember the mystique associated with owning a Land Cruiser. But I can't really remember where I gathered that, it was just there from when I was a kid. Owning one meant unsurpassed offroad capability and world-class durability. Ten trucks later and I am still amazed.
I finally discovered the path of all that is the '80 last year at the ripe old age of 39. I am now more fully prepared to rock the second half of life.
117k on the clock, $10,000. Best money I ever spent.
Bought my truck back in 2001 right before I turned 21 from original owner. Truck had only 50k miles on it at the time. I love my truck and plan on keeping it for as long as I can keep it. Also, would like to add a 40 & 55 to the line up later on down the line.
My wife and I took a trip with a friend from Georgetown, Guyana to Boa Vista, Brazil in his 60 series deisel(straight through the amazon) It was my first experience wheelin in a Landcruiser. A week after we got home I bought my 80
I was 26.
I don't know why, but I have been laboring under the misconception that guys like you who heavily modify their rigs don't have as much passion for the original rig as guys like me who love their stockers. I love being proven wrong, and I think it's really nice to see one of these "luv my 80" threads once in a while - thanks for starting it!
Age 42, just bought my first a month ago.
1996 LC with 128k
I've always wanted one, and I've had mostly Toyota pickups my entire life.
These things are amazing!
Got the '91 for $2000 from my uncle in 2002 when I was 12, with 195K. Gave it hell after I got a hack-job lift and sliders, it no longer runs after a 4 foot deep submerging.
Got the '92 this past June for $5100 with 150k, I'm 16.
Had the Cruiser bug since I was six and always wanted to ride in my uncle's 6o. He bought the '91 in '95 for those longer road trips, but it already had 75k and was in poor condition, so a few years and a hundred thousand miles later, he sold it to me. Never have looked back, and even with the crap lift it out does most Heeps.
I was 30 when I bought my first 80, a 1994 model. 35 when I sold the '94 and bought my current rig, the 97. At 37, I had to have another one -- we picked up the wife's 80, also a 97.
bought my first 91 at 26, and promptly rolled it, nad then bought my 92. 4 yers later still running strong.
still waiting till I have money and find the perfect 55 to turn into a trail rig.
