OK took some simple pics of some torn down cruiser in my yard, looks pretty sad, I figure in 3 years I sell it and start a new project or I totally frame off it, galvanize the frame and rebuild everything - not really needed but I am retarded that way.

I tore the tranny down and found that one gear on a shaft was breaking down, the corresponding gear on the output shaft was doing the same, so luckily I had a spare tranny that I tore apart and I can swap out the parts that I need. Also, the R151 on the cruiser has a short output shaft that is connected to the transfer with a sleeve/shaft that go into the transfer case. The old shafts were a 3 piece type ie. output shaft/sleeve/transfer input shaft, but they were weak so toyota made a solid transfer input shaft with the sleeve attached - looks a whole lot stronger that the old set up.

I also bought a marlin reinforcement plate for inside the tranny to keep things nice and tight. Maybe some day I will buy an H150 to install but I have been torturing the r151 for 3 years and it didn't fail.

Injection pump is out and getting ready for a boost comp. install at the injection shop, rebuild the pump while it is out?? only 150 k kms on it so I don't think so. Bought the SST for pump nut removal - makes life easy.

Going to tear the dash down and install a altimeter pod, the gauges will go in the pod and a stereo will go in the stereo hole. I'm looking for a really good GPS system that I can couple to a mini computer to plot tracks on topos, any ideas?

Also installing some castor correction bushings from slee, some new material with more flex, right now my bushings are just flopping around in there.

Hows the installs going louis?

What did your 4terrain cost to your door? Did you get nailed for duty? Where did you order it from?
Where did you get your boost compensator from? Toyota? What are they worth anyway?

Keep us posted. I dig your truck!

It's going well, I rebuilt the tranny, waiting for the tcase kit to come in from radd cruisers, clutch kit is in customs now so just waiting for that, boost comp is in the mail as well, cosy me 223 euro - about 320 all in. The engine is coming out next week, then everything goes in for ceramic coating, will get the XMC coating on the mainfold and the regular ceramic coating on the turbo and outlet and down pipe.

Ordereed up new V band connectors for the exhaust, have the motor and tranny mounts from dave stedman, putting a 4 inch stainless snorkel on it because the safari design can't handle the air coming in.

Oh, once the boost comp is here I'll send the pump out for rebuild and comp install.

Pics coming!

sweet sounds good.
I back tracked and found the clutch info out.
now if I a suitable 73 could come up in auction.....

4terrain clutch arrived, tranny is rebuilt, putting the t-case together now.

Just installed one of those clutches on my BJ74, goes nicely

Louis,
Who makes that clutch? It looks very similar to one that I was thinking about installing next?
Cheers,
John

It's a clutch industries clutch - 4Terrain.

Just pulled my old clutch today - I'll post pics tomorrow - nasty looking.

Here are some pics of my clutch that I removed, didn't measure how thick it is but looks like it isn't that old. But check out the cracks, uneven wear on the disc and what looks to be high spot on the pressure plate - which might be disc material. The little metal things inside the springs would explain the rattle that everyone has with these clutches, and check out the bent metal spacer/reinforcement in between the two clutch discs - it is bent! No wonder this thing made lots of noise, chattered, shuddered etc etc.

I am pretty sure it isn't, no other parts are bent like that - the 4 terrain is flat - so far!

lol, ok I'm a dumb ass - will take a look tomorrow and compare.

Thanks!

Lookin good!

Or perhaps too many of the Honey Browns as I see you have an empty case there in one of the above pics:hillbilly:

That is a light possibility:)

I'm being held up by the boost compensator that I am waiting for from All American Imports in NL, once it gets here I can get the pump sent off to saskatoon for the compensator install and some pump adjustments. Then I get to set the valves and get everything back together.
