I also went with the bent stock arms from "W". They have been working fine for about a year. They definitely don't have the bling factor that 4x4 Labs ( which I will be switching to when I get the money) but my whole hysteer set up cost about $100. Here are a couple of pics.

Looks like it worked well. You said bent???

I've got a very nice welded double steering arm somwhere... :D

Yea "W" heats the arms, then bends them so that they go up instead of down like regular arms and then slowly cools them. He also paints them for you.

W's concept scares the hell out of me.

But honestly, I have never heard of one failing. Perosonaly I would not run "bent" arms. But hell. It does seem to work well :)

I think I heard somewhere that W heats up the arms to super hot temps, then bends them into the correct shape etc for the "hi-steer" position and then cools them very slowly while burried in sand. Getting this done well would take some thought and practice. But like I said W is old school and a clever guy with his hands. He builds all kinds of stuff and his trucks are something to see for sure...

Not a damn thing wrong with heating and bending or cuting and welding steering arms IF you know what you are doing. If ya do, then it's pretty routine stuff and opens up a lot of inexpensive options.

so true,,, but i would also remind folks (nolan :flipoff2: ) that these are cast STEEL not cast IRON, a MAJOR MAJOR difference.

Not yet. I was goin' full steam about 2 months ago, then another project came up, so I haven't gotten a chance to finish up. Also, my plasma died so I've been lookin' to get another & that's $$$. It'll be out there soon.......

With so many better, stronger solutions for hi steer out there, why go with an old skool rock finder solution like that one? After the work to go coil, youre skimping out on steering arms?

I am currently dumping my All Pro set- arms/heims/ thick ass link set up for the even stronger, most bestest in the whole wide world- 4x4 labs set up. ALl that is keeping it off the rig is that I am waiting to get my reamed out pitman arm back from Luke.
The heims on my All pro set up, while decent enough and without much wear on this set, kinda sketched me, so I am going back to tie rods. But, my new BIG, beefy 1 ton tie rods with the rest of his set up is waaaaaaaaay BLING! I can't wait to get it all on the rig. :D

No thanks, I'll take my "old skool" setup over yours' anyday! You have way tooo much leverage on those steering arms & you are running hydro on those POS knuckles? WOW! You better bring trail spares. 1 ton tie rods - BFD, they are no match for my 3/4" heims. And, who is still running the SU "rock finder" suspension?

I am not referring to su rock finder suspension- I was referring to your steering arms, which are not 100% hy steer. And big bolt pattern (minitruck) knuckles are not as weak as you think, esp with 44 studs in them. Are you running manual steering???!!! You talk about running hydro, please tell me your put power steering on that thing! And, if youre running power steering, you want to have a weak spot at your steering arms instead of running something strong? Doesnt make sense.
My current setups heim's are fine. 1 ton rod ends or heims, no big difference in my eyes as far as strength. Its the drag link and tie rod that would have been compromised if I had gone with smaller (stock) tie rods. I went with tie rod ends this time because I wheel and drive my rig- alot.... It doesnt sit in the garage or on a trailer wiating to be driven.

Power steering, you gotta be kiddin' me. Never heard of it & I just bought my Cruzah last week & all this stuff was on it. Your "hysteer" may be a few inches over stock height, wowie! Why did you mount your steering linkage below the arms? That's odd. Where's the doubleshear mount for that hydro's heim joint on the steering arm? D'oh, yours' dont' have provisions for doubleshear mounts unlike the one I'm using. What size studs are in those knuckles? I'm using 12MM 8.8 bolts cuz I couldn't find studs that size. As for the steering arm debate, yeah yours' are beefier & you run a different setup. Mine are very sufficent & I haven't had any failures to date.

<I went with tie rod ends this time because I wheel and drive my rig- alot.... It doesnt sit in the garage or on a trailer wiating to be driven.>

Okay you prefer tie rods to heims because.......? Who told you they were *better or *stronger?

you talking to the right person? I am not running full hydro.
its a wellknown fact that heims dont last as long as tie rods, and also, its possible, have a higher risk of seperating from the ball than a tie rod end does. Heims are not legal on the street in California on steering. Not that it kept me from running them before, but since I am changing everything over, I decided to go with tie rod ends.

How can the heim joint ball seperate from it's housing if it's mounted in double shear, unless the bolt shears in the middle or the ball just decentegrates? And, in my case, that's a 3/4" grade 8 bolt. So, no thanks on the tie rods either.
