Anyone with hydro assist set up on there truck or ideas on a good set please post info and pic's if you can on the setup. Please so i can see what setup would best suit my MWB FJ73 with a soa and high steer arms.
Dose and body this setup on the road as a daily driver?
If so how dose it handle?
Its it worth it?

Any advise welcome

Thanks

Ton of info out there.

Do a search on Hydroassist.

Setup is whatever you want to make. No such thing as "best"
DD is fine depending on how big a ram you go with
Handles better than stock commonly.
VERY much worth it.

Lots of options, I run a TJ box that I ported, and a box out of an AMC eagle. I bought the ram, hoses, tabs and fittings from PSC. I run a 1.75" ram. Works very well, it is a little slow but a higher volume pump would remedy that. It is one of the best upgrades around for a rock crawler, eliminates possiblity of bump steer, all that said I wish I would have just done full hydro but that is a different can of worms.

Here is the best pic I can find of my setup at the moment.

Do you drive it on the road ?
How dose it go on the road?
Is it safe on the road?

Yes it's safe on the road. You can see in bustanutley's pic that the hydraulic ram is attached to the tie rod. None of the original steering components are removed. You just add the ram to the system to "assist" your steering. There are several people on here that you'll find through searching that have and really like this set-up.

I've got assist on my 40-series, it's zero change from stock steering as far as highway/street use, and VERY nice when you are offroad.

do it, one of the better mods I've made to my rig....

It drives better on the road with because the ram acts as a steering damper, a very effective damper

good point....my never balanced 37" Pitbulls don't have ANY wobble issues on the road...

Are you ever gonna get done with design phase 1?

huh?

well are ya?:princess:

yes ram is soo worth it, just finished mine about 2 months ago, should have done it a long time ago

search for my write up thread as well

yep, I run 1.5 ram, fj60 box, and saginaw (chevy) power steering pump with the restrictor drilled. Its one of the best upgrades I've made. I drive with my beadlocks and bias ply swampers to and from the trails and have no problems what-so-ever. Its a great upgrade and can be done on the cheap too!

Adding a tranny cooler is a good idea too.

why not go gm pump a dime a dozen

x2 on the tranny cooler

get the GM pump. I used the Toy pump in my 40, we'll say it's out of a boneyard of sorts, and it leaks like a civ but the person didn't charge me for the pump when I got it, since they said it would leak. Also it is not as powerful now that it has started leaking. Gonna need to swap to a GM pump and get my box tapped I think.

Edit: I do NOT run hydro assist in my rig...yet.

I run Hydro on my DD. Like it better that way.

loser

if you fast foward to about 3:20ish in this vid you can see where I am at a dead stop. With no ram assist there would have been no way to turn at a stop with those tires at 6psi and locked in the front. Being able to turn like that with ram assist is worth its weight in gold. The first time I tried that little section it resulted in a leaky pump...

Here you can see my set up on my 60. The thing is the steering seems to be a little sluggish at low (rpm) speeds.... Do you think that my pump is not up to the task?

Thanks.
