Anyone have a hydraulic winch on their 80? I've been doing some research and trying to compare the Mile Marker 10,500# 2 speed vs the Warn 8274 (my ARB is designed for the 8274), besides the load rating. How was it plumbing into the P/S system? ???

B,

Good to see you're away from working for a bit...how's the lowering kit for the Avalanche coming along... ;)

IIRC, you have to upgrade the power steering pump with the addition of the Mile Marker.

The wife got a new truck...now you get the 8274...It's only fair.... :D

I bet we could even put it on this weekend and you guys could enjoy the snow up here.

yea, 8274 all the way. I'm savin my pennies for the same thing. All I've ever heard about mile marker is they they are horrendusly slow, and the 8274 is the absolute complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Winch time!

FYI, milemarker just came out with a 12.5K winch weighing in at 94 pounds...

hmmmmm

Do you have to modify your ARB in order for the 8274 to work with it? I was considering one but didn't know if it would fit in with the ARB.

I've been wondering the same thing.

And a few other questions:

Where exactly does the winch mount in an ARB? Does the body of the winch end up between the frame rails (ie you can't see the drum) or is it all visible/in front of the truck. Can someone post an 'aerial view' photo?

What about thoghts on other brands (Ramsey, Superwinch) I've got some friends that say the Ramsey is much better than Warn ??? Thoughts?

Cheers, Hugh

BMT has the ARB Commercial bullbar, which is specifically designed for the 8274. The mounting area is different for the upright design.

CDN,

A winch mounts on a "normal" ARB by bolting the "bottom" of the winch to the front of the bullbar, so the winch does indeed sit, more or less, between the framerails.

Most winch manufacturers use the same "footprint" for the mounting bolts of winches, so for instance a Warn should fit where a Ramsey or Milemarker would, and vice versa.

As for which winch is better, that's a matter of opinion and everyone will have different tastes. FWIW my Ramsey 8000 Rep has been on 4 vehicles and has never let me down. That being said, I only occasionally use it for light recovery work. I believe those who really use their winches around here will most likely vote for a Warn, as the line speeds and reliablity are greater and proven, respectively.

Bottom line on winches....depends on what you are using it for.

I'll see if I can grab a pic and post it for you manana.

Some pictures...

This is an ARB with an M12k from the front...

Same, but from above and in front...

OK, I see, it's not actually under the truck (ie exposed to all the muck). Thanks for the pics!

Cheers, Hugh

Rogue, ::)

Um, who spooled your cable for you?

( I wouldn't let them do it any more if I were you) :whoops:

Before I moved out to Utah a friend and I used the winch to tear out some trees on my family's property. He spooled it back up for me when we were done. I have been meaning to redo it, but haven't needed the winch as of late. I am a lazy kid. What else can I say. Maybe i'll respool it today and post up a better picture.

That's my boy!.. :D

Sorry, it's hard for me to look at a bowl of spagetti on such a nice vehicle.

Ooo yeessss, good thread. How come I always post something 2 minutes after someone else just asked the same thing. Anybody got pics of the commercial with an 8274 in it?
