Hello All, Got a question regarding the HVAC fan. Is it just not that strong? I’ve pulled the fan to confirm there is no debris or nests in the fan housing, felt around in the AC unit etc and it’s all clean. Are these fans just weak as compared to new vehicles? Unfortunately I don’t have anything to compare this to from this vintage. AC and heat work fine, just not a lot of air volume is moving. I’ve switched from recirculating to fresh air as well with no difference in volume.

if your heater core or evaporator look like the one in this thread, that would cause a big restriction

the blower will move a good amount of air

The volume of air from my vents and ducts is more than adequate and comparable to other cars.

Does the fan speed up & slow down? It should be very noticeable.

The fan blows like a jet engine exhaust when supplied with adequate power and a free spinning motor.
Its easy to remove the fan assembly. Remove it and see if the fan spins freely.
If the motor is worn out and clogged up it won't spin very fast. Also if the wring is worn out it can't get the power it needs.
I rewired my HVAC fan motor with 10AWG wire all the way to the battery and it then blew so much more air than it ever did.

Check the fresh Air intake screen in the Cowl, behind the wiper motor (LHD). It's often very occluded.

That or what's been mentioned above is usually it: Mine is a 4 Seasons aftermarket blower, not even as robust as the OE, and it blows like a Vegas hooker (I'm told).

Hello All, thanks for all the great feedback:

1. I’ll check the intake below the cowl.
2. Fan has been removed and it spins freely with no debris inside. I also reached inside and felt the AC evaporator and it’s really clean. Didn’t check the heater core but will see if I can access that easily.
3. Will inspect the heater resistor and maybe just replace it as a precautionary measure as I’ve got an 8k miles road trip ahead of me.

Cheers, James

The Resistor is NLA from Toyota, but the OEM Denso is avail in the Denso box as well as all the aftermarket ones on RA are Denso rebox, last I checked.
