On my previous 80 I ran 37 SSR's and I had no clearance issues! That 80 had 4" lift and no flares.

(Here's a pic of my old 80 on 37's)

So now I want to run 38x12.50 TSL's on my current 80:eek:!

Will they still stuff or will I have to do alot of wheel well trimming (I can't remember how much clearance I had w/37's:o)???

:bounce:I would love to see pics of anyones 80 on 38's for comparison:hillbilly:!

Will they stuff? Up to a point :flipoff2:

How much bumpstop extension were you running with the 37's and what was the backspace on those rims?

Sans trimming, this is about how much up travel you have left in the suspension once you have limited up travel to the point the tires make contact.

My sense is 4" is not enough for 38's without trimming as 37's can just be fit on that height lift.

I don't have the answer to either of those Q's....I bought it that way and spent so much time and $$$ on trying to get it running right that I never looked! I did take it off road once and totally crossed it up (like the pic above) and they stuffed no prob!

I think just being "crossed up" doesn't tell the story. Look at this pic where the entire weight is sitting back on the passenger side rear - you will get some bumpstop compression (this is the only spot I ever got those 35" trxus to rub on the frame with stock rims).

There is no way I could run 38s on my 3.5" lift without flares. Maybe a skinny 37. Maybe. Backspace and tire width will be key.

Remember, just because it rubs doesn't mean it wont fit. My tires rub, but they don't damage the body and the body doesn't damage them. Only in the rear though, those front wheel wells could swallow 40s without trouble.

Full 6" Slee lift with Roger Brown 2" body lift, 1.5" spacers running Michelin XL 11.00x16 (38.5"). No rubbing.

Remember the XL's are 11 inches wide ... He wants to run a tire that will measure almost 13" wide. Width will be the difference in rub, not height, well to a point ... Just my thoughts.

Also, the XL's are a true 38.7" tire. The swampers will probably measure around 37" ????

5-6 inch net lift will clear 38's easy with proper bumpstops. Major flexing add a small body/suspension lift in top of that.

That 80 looks awefully familiar :):) Little off topic but they air flow meter was the cause for the poor running.

Very true, it all depends on what kind of rubbing you are talking about and whether it affects anything.

I'd still stick with 37's on a 4" lift, it simply is an easy match. If I really wanted 38's, I have to say I'd be re-designing my suspension for around the 6" lift point from the perspective of "if I really need those 38's, I realistically need more lift on a rig this big, too".

My next set will be 37's as I already have 5.29's, but that is a couple years away. As I said, it's a stretch to fit these wide 315 Toyos - a narrower 37 is not going to be materially different on the 80, but 38's would be a totally different beast.

Glad you were able to nail down the problem! I threw about 1 grand at it and thought it was fixed but then found out from the next owner that it was still acting up!

Once again I'm really glad you figured it out:clap:!!!

I want to get some of those military tires....wonder where I could pick a set up and how much they would be???

I don't really care if they rub a little just as long as they aren't tearing up the body or the tires aren't gett'n all cut up!:hillbilly:
